Description

It’s been quite a while since I updated Cynthia’s hero look/Nucifera suit, and it’s long overdue.  I was actually working on a turn around when I decided that the pattern I had decided on was REALLY boring (fourth from the right/end) which started a long conceptual session trying to figure out how to balance all of the things that are Cynthia into her super suit.  A lot of the finished design (left end) is influenced by Warframe.

The three designs on the right end (the ones with dates) are previous designs that I recreated for comparison/reference.  Admittedly, I cringed when I went to go look the two oldest up.  I’m really not that fond of them, and they’re REALLY inappropriate for the character and her story.  Nucifera’s first design is heavily based on what was available in the City of Heroes character creator, which even at the time I hated because it felt like a really terrible restriction.

I really wanted to keep the thigh-high white boots, but after a while it came down to emphasizing her legs or emphasizing her shoulders, and it’s more important in her character to emphasize a masculine T-shape and have her shoulders stand out.

Everything in between the dated designs are most of the failed attempts at designing suits for her (a few of them either got painted over or trashed completely- usually if only half the design was done and I knew it’d be no good).  I feel that it’s important for me to include these failed attempts and bad designs to show a real example of pushing through and forcing myself to keep  going even though I felt like everything I was drawing was crap as well as showing how long it can take for a design to really finalize, in this particular case, 3 years overall and a month between when I started trying to redesign from the latest dated design and when I finished AND in that month most of those failed designs were done in one night during a big push to figure it out rather than waiting around for inspiration to strike.  Other characters of mine have taken much longer to form and finalize and there are some I’m still working on.  Cynthia herself has come a long way  from her first iteration (and second  and third ), and when I get some more free time to work on and finish her character sheet, I’ll post it.

Wow!! This is so very pretty and so interesting to see where the design came from. The different iterations and interpretations of the ongoing lotus patterns are really interesting too see change and just the progress you've made on Cynthia. I must say I do also mourn the loss of those boots - they look great.
Honestly, I almost feel like the three left-most outfits could even be more armoured/'powered up' versions of each other.
Each is so different and fantastic in its own ways, it's amazing to see your talent in costume design showcased yet again!

Thanks :>

An armored suit is interesting, but completely unnecessary for Cynthia XD  Her powers give her the ability to manipulate mass and density of matter- essentially giving her super strength and invulnerability among other abilities (such as "ghosting"/phasing/passing through other matter), so she doesn't actually need a suit to protect herself, it's almost all part of projecting a specific image.
