Description

Now holding only the rope’s opposing end, the scientist readied himself for an impromptu experiment. He had only the vaguest idea of how to use his wings; but any might be enough right now. Readying himself before the guards could round the building; or decide to launch their flames, the half dragon leapt forward. He aimed for the largest tree in that direction, far past the rear flank of the commander. The maneuver was making him feel like the world’s largest tetherball, spiked for that grand spiral. As he did so, a single statement went out for the sake of Calir’s safety.

“Jump Speedy!”

Not as low as he’d have first hoped; Kelvin brought the straining line over the small clearing were guards now posted. He rounded with a few of them trying to follow the advice offered to his companion. Their speed far too slow; and height of their leaps far too meager, most caught at least some length of the rope. Those that had jumped went pin wheeling when it burned across their legs. Those who’d merely turned, were clotheslined mercilessly across the chest. The only guard who’d managed to escape the assault was Krek; having dove to the ground at the half dragon’s initial shout.

The energy within the Solarian's body flowed and manifested its potential within the man's legs; intensifying the sensation and interweaving through muscular structure. Questioning the subject wasn't an option. Calir could identify severity from what he’d snatched out of the half dragon's words. The way the scientist had phrased his warning, wasn't exactly a way Calir was familiar with. However he jumped. The acceleration was short-lived, but brought the red-haired man soaring into the air. It was done at a speed and intensity no human being would be able to copy free-handed.
A single word kept spinning back into Calir's mind. 'Speedy'? What kind of a nickname was that? The medic wasn't entirely sure, if he found it amusing… or disgruntling.
