Description Break falls in Aikido is VERY important, otherwise you get hurt.

Unfortunately they are not my strong suit. I can do backwards, but forward is a struggle, to the point of embarrasment when you are 3rd kyu and still can't do them properly. At least not on command. And especially not without hands.

That said, I think everyone has tried to do a faceplant while learning ukemis.

I understand. I'm a 4th kyu and I am not authorized to do my exam until I can get the tobukemi right! I just panic when I see the floor becoming closer and closer...
The same  happened when I was learning mae ukemi! It took me a while, I did it right after 2 years! Ushiro ukemi... I did it from teh very first class! >__<
But we can do it! DO IT FOR YOUR HAKAMA!

I'm practising judo (since september), and when I do break falls I always hit my shoulder. I envy my sempais that do it so smoothly without even hitting the ground!

Btw, I'm enjoying a lot your aikido comics!

Thanks a ton!

Two things have helped me greatly lately with break falls: Have you tried focusing a lot on looking at your navel? Keeps you rounded. I also discovered, that making a small jump on the leg you still have on the ground helps you get more spin, and landing on the back instead of shoulders? It's really difficult, I think, but makes break falls much better.

I've tried to focus even more on looking at my navel and that help me a lot! I was able to do a perfect break fall, at least on my right shoulder. I hit a little my left shoulder but it was better than last time.
I'll keep pratising!

Thank you!

Yea!! Really cool, totally soundless!! Reminds me of my sensei (first person in the comic btw). He also practiced in Brazil for a long time. Might be a long shot, but did you ever practice with a guy called Victor Merea?

No unfort... my sensei does it very well too... He is Brazilian-Japanese (the nage in the video)...
I also could get some priceless tips with Kashiwaya Sensei (8 dan, Ki Aikido) during a seminar here in Brazil... He is trully amazing!

Dang it... Would have been cool if you knew him

I don't know so many people in aikido, the only two I know from Brazil is my sensei (who is actually Peruvian, but lived in Brazil som years), and the person he was uchideshi for, Reishin Kawai.

Reishin Kawai was our shihan years ago... (from our group)
He passed many years ago but his organization is still up. Im part of it! ^^

Thats really cool!

The sensei I said, Kashiwaya, is from japan and lives in the united states anyway

I think I have two-three minor concussions under my belt, from slamming my head into the mat... Not as dramatic as in the drawings, but still

How many concussions one person can get untell you damage in the brain spot?
Like i was told it was 3, or it like a sale to want you get.
