How to Install Custom Themes - A guide by neiio

You need your system to be patched first in order to install 3rd party visual styles for Windows (uxstyle or uxtheme patcher).

You can use the Theme Installer to install the theme afterwards:

Or manually move the theme to WindowsResources folder.
You can use Navigation Icons Customizer to edit the explorerframe:

Or manually edit WindowsSystem32explorerframe.dll with a resource editor (I use Restorator) to replace the matching resource bitmaps.

That usually happens because you don't have a system patch installed, or the installation is corrupt in some way.
I recommend you download uxstyle from uxstyle.com, install it, and try it again.

No I didn't mean it in a demeaning voice, it just surprised me that this problem occurs so much.
What I've doing now is trying to get the same error, because if I can repricate that, I might be able to come up with a solution too

I feel like I tard trying to figure this out, but what's the theme that we need to use? It calls for a a folder containing .msstyles file as well as the .theme.

They're both inside the Themes folder of the downloaded archive.
The one in the main folder of \Themes is the .theme file which is pretty much only needed for Windows to identify the theme; the one inside LoLVS2 is the .msstyles file, that's the main file containing the theme.

Okay so I have this entire thing figured out, finally. The only part I don't have is the Explorer.exe and I can't find it anywhere.

The explorer.exe is only used to change the start orb, but that's only an alternate (and less safe) method to changing it.
So it's not needed if you can change the start orb like this.

But I downloaded it and for some reason when I apply the theme it just goes back to the classic Windows Theme.
I do have another theme that I've been using and I tried to re-path everything and so forth, but it still just has the Windows Theme.
Do you know why this happens? Or how I can fix it?

Problems like you have usually happen when you have incorrect / missing install of uxtheme patcher or uxstyle - I prefer the latter.
You can download it from uxstyle.com; if you already have it install try uninstalling / reinstalling it.

:/ Hmm. I tried reinstalling uxstyle. I tried downloading another theme just to test it and it worked, but when applying the LoL theme it still just displays the classic Windows 7 theme. Suppose I'll continue messing around with it. Any ideas?

There is some way to make it work on 8, it might just as well work on it as it is, but I didn't have the time to install and test it on 8 yet, will do so in the weekend if all goes well.

I tried to make a setup application which does everything on its own without needing to manually do everything, but this far I've failed achieving to create a usable, portable installer.

i've got a 6 bit windows but i cant install it whats my problem? D: i got the start orb and the bitmaps for the buttons in the explorer but nothing else :/

Is your uxstyle / uxtheme patch installed properly? (uxstyle.com)
If not, I recommend uninstalling it, and reinstalling - I use uxstyle, never had a problem with it before.

I got the the theme to work, my only problem is that the window box edges do not display. I see a part of one and then a blurred panel where it is supposed to be located.

But forgot to mention, you should try Windows 7 Aero Blur Tweaker by Kishan-Bagaria and hiding blur with it; maybe that has something to do with it.
