Previous towns: Baker City, Oregon
Current town: Gotham City
Coloring/general features:

  • Eyes: Originally dark brown; yellow irises and red sclera post-permaclowning
  • Hair: Originally dark brown; dark forest-green post-permaclowning
  • Skin: Originally pale caucasian; bleached-bone-white post-permaclowning
  • Build: Thin build with a wiry frame and large hips
  • Distinguishing features: Most notably among her distinguishing features is Jeanette's ghastly resemblance to The Joker after she was thrown into a vat of the same chemical concoction that altered his appearance.  Jeanette is never seen without her glasses, however, and a noticeable difference in her features from the Joker's is her teeth, which have been medically treated and whitened back to their original state.

Allegiance: True neutral- Jeanette was a citizen prior to being the Joker's victim, and she is a citizen still, albeit no longer comfortable walking around and showing her face in public.  She has no interest in political affairs or the on-going war between Batman's brood and the criminal underworld of Gotham.

Powers/Abilities/Styles/Gifts:

  • Despite her chemically-altered physiology, Jeanette has not developed any unique powers or abilities. She has noticed however, a heightened response time and heightened reflex reactions to her surroundings. She has no training in any fighting styles whatsoever, but is sitting on the fence of asking Eva and possibly Wraith to train her in some self-defense.

History:
Jeanette's early life was spent in Baker City, Oregon, with her mother and elder sister.  There is little Jeanette remembers of this however, because at some point her father (who only ever visited on special occasions) vanished completely.  Unaware of the strangeness of her parents' relationship, Jeanette only knew that one day, the father that was hardly ever there to begin with was gone forever, and her mother uprooted her and older sister Michelle to move far away from Oregon.  They landed in Gotham City, where the cost of living was low in the western district [called "Old Gotham" territory] and their mother was able to get flexible part-time jobs and put the girls in school.  Checks arrived every month to help with child support, and it was only because of desperation that Jeanette and Michelle's mother accepted the money to help make ends meet. Growing up, Michelle took to the feminine expectations and roles that society had for young girls, due to her very out-going personality and desire to fit in.  Jeanette however, was far more introverted and given to bouts of social anxiety, and preferred to spend most of her time in the library reading rather than trying to make many friends. Despite this, she was also given to "people-watching", and became a pretty sharp judge of character.  Later in high school, when Michelle started dating a guy named Bryan, Jeanette wasn't snowed by him like their mother was.  She voiced her opinions on him to Michelle, who angrily shot Jeanette's suspicions down.  Jeanette later felt bitterly vindicated when Bryan got Michelle pregnant, but was enraged when her mother encouraged Michelle to get an abortion.  This opened a huge rift between Jeanette and her mother and sister, and the second she was able, Jeanette moved out on her own, choosing to ardently pursue a bachelor's degree in library sciences and shut her mother and Michelle out of her life.  In time she would land a job in the Gotham City Library, working as one of the children's librarians. It was a job that suited her well and made her happy.  Jeanette quickly got into a routine, feeling nothing in the world would bring her down.

Disaster would strike when one day, The Joker burst into the library, declaring his intention to burn it to the ground.  While her fellow staff members were frozen in fear, Jeanette responded in a rush of adrenaline, assaulting Joker not once, but twice with books, the second time knocking him out from behind in the middle of a fight with Batman.  Batman didn't thank her for her help however, and instead admonished her for her actions with the unsettling remark that the Joker wasn't likely to forget her for this.  Later, when several members of Gotham's elite families arrived to see what they could do to assist the library after Joker's assault, Jeanette would meet Lance Pendragon, who was immediately drawn in by her personality and boldly asked her out for coffee.  Unsettled, Jeanette almost refused, but after Lance persisted she agreed.  The two hit it off rather quickly and Lance made persistent attempts to send her flowers or ask her out on additional dates, and Jeanette slowly felt her walls beginning to lower.

Further disaster would occur when she would be approached by Killer Croc, who informed her that not only had Lance gone missing but so had Croc's lady friend and love interest, a woman by the name of Eva.  Croc asked for Jeanette's assistance and resources to help find them, and along with his henchmen he took Jeanette out to the place they suspected Lance and Eva had been spirited off to.  They were met by a scientist by the name of Emile Dorian, who revealed that both Lance and Eva were werewolves and he intended to see if he could possibly force the two of them to breed. Jeanette interrupted him mid-monologue and gave Dorian a piece of her mind, and with Croc backing her up, Dorian relented and set both Lance and Eva (and additionally Lance's butler Gerard and vampire friend, Rook) free.  Jeanette refused to hear Lance out though about his heritage, and instead opted to return home in the company of Croc, Eva, and Croc's henchmen.  During this time, Jeanette struck up a fast friendship with Eva, who encouraged her to try seeing things from Lance's perspective and giving him another chance.  The discussion rocked Jeanette to her core, and also prompted her to reach out to Michelle for the first time in years to apologize for shutting her out over what happened in the past.

But before Lance and Jeanette could properly try to mend things between them, Jeanette found herself abducted by the Joker, who was hell-bent on getting his revenge against her. Holding her for ransom, he demanded a hefty sum of money from Lance, who arrived with a briefcase in hand.  Upon finding out that he was being played, Joker dumped Jeanette in a vat of the same chemical solution that so drastically transformed him, despite Lance, Eva, Rook, and Batman all attempting to interfere.  She was quickly rescued, but not without having undergone her own ghastly transformation first.  Escorted out by Lance, Detective Ellen Yin, Eva, Rook, and an apologetic Batman, Jeanette was taken to a hospital to have her condition monitored.  Afterward, Lance offered to give Jeanette a place to stay where she could work on healing emotionally, and shortly thereafter, he decided to propose to her. A further surprise would come in the form of three werewolf pups, triplets created by Dorian from hers and Lance's DNA as a gift to the two of them, due to the fact Jeanette would probably never be able to give birth post-permaclowning. Now suddenly a mother, Jeanette lives at Pendragon manor, trying to heal and figure out this parenting business, and put all that mess concerning the Joker behind her.

Important Notes and Quirks:
  • Despite no longer being able to work openly at the library, Jeanette still loves books and will often take to organizing the library in Pendragon manor.  This stems from both a need for routine and familiarity, as well as a habit that allows Jeanette to relax and find a sense of peace.
  • While she doesn't necessarily like cooking, Jeanette loves baking, and is known for making some of the best homemade cookies anyone has ever tasted.
  • Jeanette is related on her father's side to Jesse and Catriona Macallister.  She is not aware however, of her cousins' secret draconic heritage.
  • Jeanette's laugh has altered somewhat post-permaclowning.  She wasn't prone to laughing freely beforehand, but will laugh more openly now. She tries to hold it in when she can out of concern for what it might mean for her mental stability, but when she's been fighting the urge to laugh at something funny for too long, she'll burst out into near-hysterics.
  • After the trauma and chemical bath, Jeanette's physical condition cannot be altered, save for her teeth, which were able to be medically treated.  If she needs to go out for extended periods of time, she has specialized contacts and (with some help from her sister Michelle) has learned how to apply make-up to drastically alter her appearance.  There's nothing to be done however, for her green hair.
  • In addition to dealing with the physical changes, Jeanette has been enrolled in therapy to help deal with the psychological impact of the chemical bath.  Typically this helps tremendously, and people who aren't intimately close to Jeanette are given to the impression she's well-adjusted to the permaclowned condition, if possibly without any psychological changes at all. But there are also "bad days", where Jeanette goes somewhat manic and wild around Pendragon manor and its grounds, giving vent to any pent-up wildness that she's not had the chance to get out of her system.
  • Jeanette looks up to and deeply admires Eva Thompson, who is arguably her best friend in the world.

Like this character, despite everything she kept going forwards. Not holding any grudge to no one.
It makes interesting how she adapts to her new life.

Also the first time I see an OC that has being permaclowned.

Nice character. ^^

I think it's sad how happy it makes me to see perma-clown Jeanette finally up and colored. BUT I'M SO HAPPY!! I love Jeanette and if I'm too be honest I think she's the favorite of mine out of all your OCs save for perhaps Gawain. But I always love getting to see things with her even if it's just a long overdue bio.

It's a bittersweet feeling, I surmise? But hey, I'm happy to get her perma-clowned color scheme up properly, so you're not alone!!
;A; It makes me ridiculously happy to hear you love her that much (even if Gawain is her only competition!) I really need to do more with her, don't I?

XD Uh-oh! I don't know how well they'll handle having competition for attention, much less when that competition is Jeanette Harker! (Some days you can't get rid of a librarian!)

I don't know, I think it still looks rather shaky, all things considered.
The Krita digital art program is a beautiful thing though~.
;A; Aaaaahhh, thank you!! I really need to do more with Jeanette, she doesn't get enough love.
