Pretty sure a lot of you are very familiar with the Ice Bucket Challenge videos goin' around involving all sorts of celebs, and various volunteers on youtube, or any other video sharing site/media, of people dumping water on their heads.... I decided I'd like to get in on that action, be it in the form of a picture. :bFor those not familiar with it, it's a charitable challenge where the challenger gets a bucket of ice cold water dumped on themselves for charity. After taking the challenge, they must donate to the ALS Association(I don't think we have to do that with the art version of this, but it would be appreciated if anyone who takes on this challenge could do so.) of an undetermined amount of money.(usually $10-$20) If they refuse to accept the challenge within 24 hours... they have to donate $100(not the official rule, but it's referenced in the rules on the wiki page.). The donation of the challenge goes to funding for the cure for ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis)...... also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
I was originally tagged by to do this, but I kinda talked my way out of it cuz I'm so busy with commissions, and stuff. :v Normally, I don't do tags... but this, I couldn't say no to. I wanna help spread the word about this. Hopefully I'm of help to the cause.
Anyways... as I said... I talked my way out of the initial challenge. :b But YoshiGirl wasn't gonna let me get away with that so easily. :I So she volunteered to assist me with the challenge.................. unwillingly. x___X Such a good girlfriend you are, YoshiGirl.
I think I'm supposed to tag 3 other people to do this, but I don't like to pick, and choose. Too many people are too busy, so I'll just make this an "open tag"... If you wanna do this too, you're more than welcome to. :] If you don't... just go on about your days of dryness. :n

In California where I'm at, people are apparently getting fined $500 for participating - because we're having a drought. Many people don't even donate to the cause anyway, they're just dumping buckets of water on their head for publicity. :I

But yeah... not every charitable movement will be 100% done for the intended cause. But whether people are donating from the ice bucket challenge, or not... they're still spreading awareness of it. It's just like that kick starter for potato salad, some time ago..... It was so stupid, and goofy, the guy just wanted $10 to buy the ingredients to make the potato salad. But it's grown so much publicity from the kick starter stunt, that it raised multiple thousands of dollars, instead. Imagine if he didn't do that, and just made a custom website, asking for $10 to make a potato salad. He probably wouldn't have gotten more than $100, let alone the target goal of $10.

Yuuuup. But it's also five gallons of water too. We have restrictions on not being able to even use water outside every day - often only 3 days a week (like only on tuesday, thursday, and saturday for odd houses, monday, wednesday and friday for the evens), so you can get in trouble just for cleaning your car or watering the lawn on the "wrong day" I guess! A group of 23 cheerleaders did it though, and apparently all got fined 500 each. Ouch. >_>
On one hand, I do kinda agree. But on the other, it also feels like it's more of a fad so that people make it look like they're being charitable when they aren't. Or hell, in another three weeks, people might forget why people were doing the challenge in the first place, and just dump ice water on each other because it became a meme and they are trying to be "trendy".
I understand it's supposed to spread the word on ALS and all, I guess I just feel very skeptical of the seriousness of something if it's title is "The ___ Challenge".

Yeah.... they had something like that when I lived in Florida. So I'm fairly familiar with that.
But geez! Someone made a killing, that day. If only all that money went to charities, instead of the govt.......
Yeah.... Surely the reason will become forgotten, as time rolls on. Not a good thing to happen, but it happens... That's just the way the world turns. It's like an example I used earlier, about Breast Cancer Awareness...... Not very many people (who don't live with, or have it)worry, or even care about it at all...... until the month of October, when they do the walk, and also the NFL sponsorship, where all the players wear something pink, for the entire month. Not to forget all the TV ads and whatnot, supporting it. So during that month, it's being heavily marketed, and donated to find a cure for Breast Cancer... But any other time it's probably very minimal (unless they advertise another special even for it, during another month, like March).
I understand the skepticism as well.... but still.... in this day and age, we need to find things to draw attention away from whatever it is people do these days, to pay attention to the world outside of themselves. There's people with incurable diseases, and it costs money to research, test, and treat these illnesses. If a goofy little challenge like pouring ice water over your head, or even a bet that leaves someone wearing a butt ugly dress, with a cowboy hat, and hazmat boots, is used to grab attention, I think it's perfectly fine. Whether I, myself, donate or not... I always support these kinds of things because they serve a good purpose. Whether it ENDS with a good purpose is the true issue, though. But we just have to trust good intentions to be used for good.

Here's a tip I been giving to people. You should donate support the cause of the ASL to help people out and hopefully give them a second chance. You don't need to throw a bucket of water on yourself. Mike Pollock raised a good point about this. I got nominated, and I told them sons' uh' bitches to kiss my ass.

Anyways, there's nothing wrong with doing this stunt to market the charity. Raising excitement for it. It's up to each of us individually to determine if we think the bucket of water is a fun idea, or a stupid waste of time. It's no different than going to an amusement park, and goin on one of the water rides, as opposed to say... a tea cup ride. No one says you have to do any of that stuff..... Only thing that matters is that you payed to get into the park. Like this challenge... the only thing that matters is that someone donates money.

Whatever you call it, I went to a party last night and saw alll kinds of ice buckets...with beverages. Best ice challenge ever. Now thats a ice bucket challenge.
No offense but I just find it dumb. Its just another popular trend like fire challenge to get people to do outrageous shit sadly. And I'll be real, no one isn't really donating. I asked around when looking on facebook. No one is donating lol. People are doing it for the views dude. It was like the fire challenge. No one cares about ALS, at least not the younger generation and it's the truth sadly. I wish I was wrong but that's how young naive minds are.

Yeah, I get that part of it. But the part I'm focusing on is that it's making those who actually do wanna donate, more aware of it. Not everyone in this world is a saint. Some people are for others.... And some people are all for themselves. (Not that it's even bad to be one way, or the other way.)

...because the donation happens anyways. :m I'm not entirely sure how the challenge goes, as I've not done it irl... but from what I read, it's someone challenges another person to do it. The challenge giver must donate, if the challenge taker does the challenge. Vice Versa if the challenge taker refuses. But in the end... money is donated to the ALS Association from one of the sides. And I'm sure in a good number of cases... both sides donate anyways, because it's for a good cause.
