Description Another scratch board piece. I'm about sick of scratch board now I think...

This is the final product for a scratch board demo commission. I'm afraid I can't post the demo, but at least I can show you the final product.

Thanks to ~hungerartist for helping me rework my character, Miry. He suggested the newsies hat.

It's been years since the last time I got my hands on some scratch board I love the way you handled contrasts, and the feeling of "light source" Truly a beautiful piece, I just can't believe it's in scraps. Truthfully, I can't believe all the things you have in scraps, they're all amazing Love his fluffy clothes too

I get that from time to time where too much ink dust gathers up and it makes me lose sense of contrast and I scratch out too much in an attempt to make things lighter.

This may help...

I usually run my image every now and then over with water to wash out the dust. I have masonite scratch board so water won't damage it . If you have the paper kind, however, you may just need to gently wipe the surface of your image with a wet paper towel (I really don't know how flimsy the paper since I've never worked with it before, just be careful). DO NOT work on your image right after you washed it. The ink and white clay will weaken once exposed to water and too much will come off once scratched. Wait about 30 minutes minimum for things to dry off.

Hope that helps you continue with your piece!

This guy has the best pants ever. They're just so big and poofy!

Anyway. I'm glad you took the commission. It's not every day you get to do something like this, even if you are tired of it at this point. I think you should continue with scratchboard, even if it's only on rare occasions. I like what you do with it.

Thanks, but as I was telling Robyn, I dunno if I can afford it. But as you said, maybe again in a long while (I still need to wear it off).

it's too bad you're sick of them, because you're good at them. I think the background outshines the character here.

Thanks. I do like scratch board but I seriously need a break from them. Plus, masonite scratch board is a little pricey. I dunno if I want to be spending that much money so often.

Thanks, it is a fun medium. I've done three of these already and I'm a little sick of it right now, but it's fun nonetheless.

It really is something you can't quite achieve with just regular o' charcoal or pencil.

its easy to see why you would be commissioned for a scratchboard demo . I think the re-working is great. I can definitely tell hes a city kid from this picture.

Thanks. Scratch board is a little frightening at first. But I think if you plan your image throughly it's really not all that difficult. I really never encountered anything difficult with it since I started my first one.
