Cloudsdale, the shining jewel of the sky, had once been known as the most technologically advanced city in all of Equestria, all thanks to the innovations of one little pegasus.

As an element wielder, Surprise was entrusted with the virtue of laughter, or as it was called in her times, Hope. She viewed her role as a way to improve the lives of not just the pegasi, but all of Equestria through what she called ‘the Surprise Spark’, which she claimed gave her ideas for new inventions.

From this spark of ingenuity, Surprise created hundreds of technological innovations: harnessed electricity from Cloudsdale’s moisture, created imperishable cake in a can, and everyday appliances that seem mundane now but were almost like magic in her time. Needless to say, she became an idol of progress in Cloudsdale, as every pegasus praised her inventions. But if there was one thing she loved to innovate on the most, parties had to be it.

Loudspeakers, focused colored lights, or lasers as she called them, and microphones were a result of her inventive spark. And she wished for nothing more than to take her inventions to all corners of Equestria, so everyone may enjoy them. How you may ask? By making Cloudsdale Equestria’s first moving-floating city. Attaching massive windmills she called turbines, powered by equally massive moisture generators, Surprise took the city touring across Equestria. She shared the technological marvels with every pony, wishing to improve their lives as she had improved the lives of those in Cloudsdale.

Being told this, ponies will wonder exactly how Cloudsdale suffered a setback after all these years. Setback however, is an understatement. Exactly one hundred years ago, the so called “Sentient Storm of the Everfree” struck Cloudsdale, becoming a catalyst to one of the biggest natural disaster to hit Pony civilization. Only due to bravery of Surprise were the body count minimal as she stood back in her factory, coordinating the rescue operation while frantically micromanaging every single machine she had in a last ditch attempt to save her fellow citizens. Nothing remains of Cloudsdale after the incident.

Today, Cloudsdale has been rebuilt, but the story of Surprise and her factory remained a stuff of legend. In the hundred years that followed, Surprise’s inventions continued to be used, even as the pegasi leadership vilified her for the disaster. However, Surprise’s inventions live on in Equestria, along with her ideal of bringing smiles to others through a generous and ingenious spirit.
