They were both Earthborn orphans living in a small town away from the city. Jane was in an orphanage and John lived out on the streets.Β
After a incident involving Jane's red bike, they became at first, enemies and it took a while for the both of them to get use to each other. They began to hang out in a hidden flower field away at night from the town and realized that they had a similar dream:Β
To have a family.
Since John had no one, Jane became his "family". Thus, they became the best of friends, looking out and emotionally connecting with each other on a very personal level.Β
After a year into their relationship, Jane was adopted by the Shepard family. John was heartbroken, but he couldn't let his sadness get in the way of Jane's happiness.Β
Undeterred, he promised her that he would go up there, *In Space* to find her again.Β
So, after watching her leave, he told himself that he would be a good person from then on because of Jane's good influence. He also took on the last name "Shepard" by his favorite role model, Alan Barnett Shepard, the first American to orbit space.
So John took the Earthborn/Solider/Β Sole Survivor route.Β
Jane went on and took the Earthborn/Solider Β path.Β
So any more questions? Most of this will become an Origin comic by . I'm still making story revisions, but that's the basic layout so far.

I wouldn't have pegged John to be the one to follow Jane, vice-versa, actually. But in its own way it fits!Β
