This is wonderful, thank you so much for making and posting! Now I just need to go out and make or buy an obi that's long enough--did you make yours, and if so how?

I made my obi from silk, and alot of iron-on stiffner sewn inbetween... it was a grueling 4 hours to make =.=

I'm just wondering how big the obi you used was? I know the authentic maiko obi are up to 7 meters long. Would I need 7 meters for this one as well, or can I get away with 5 or six?

it really depends on how tall you are. taller people are obviously going to need a longer obi so that the wings of the dangling part look proportioned. Since i'm short (5'2), i only needed 5 metres for it to look right.

THANK YOU!!!! Not only is this how-to in english and easy to understand, it's also very pretty and colorful! Heck, even the obi is colorful! <3
I tried this on my little sister last night. Unfortunately, the fabric wasn't stiff and it was waaaay too long for her! So I still have yet to properly try this...

You are such a life saver. My college is doing a play about and I've not been able to find anything on the net about tying a darari obi, and this was much easier to understand than I thought it would be.
