Personally, Anders is the one I kill. The Chantry was heading for a civil war, but Anders deciding to remove the mediator (and killing several dozen members of the Chantry, Cleric can't have been the only person in the building) meant that instead of Hawke exercising her persuasion skills, Kirktown streets ran red with blood.
Yeah, he is the Spirit Healer and yeah, without him Bethany is either kidnapped or dead, but I just cannot forgive him for killing dozens of innocents and inciting a long and bloody war just so he could make a point.

Honestly, all that time I spent rivalling him to get him out of that Maker-obsessed stupor, and then he pulled the "Do it or else!" card. If I had my way, my rogue!Hawke would have hurled a throwing knife at his head, missing only slightly, and say, "Take another step, priesty, and I guarantee it will be your last." What followed would essentially be Seb agreeing to fight the templars and apologising for his ignorance. But alas...

And really, Elthina? You couldn't step in and tell Meredith that cracking the skulls of people who disagree with her was not acceptable? Thrask deserved better. Grace deserved better. Every god damn mage and reasonable templar who suffered under Meredith's rule deserved better. Which is why I never kill Anders - rival or friend, a line drawn in the sand by the grand cleric would have meant something to Meredith, and maybe allowed Anders to tell Justice to sthu; her failure to step in and have a bit of backbone when it counted made all this possible. *sigh*

But then again Meredith was already mad because of that sword... so even if Elthina did something, Meredith might not listen... And I doubt she'd just let go of the sword... look what it did to Bartrand...
And...It's just too bad about Thrask's death... he was a good man... Grace on the other hand... I enjoyed killing her... that's what she gets for wanting to kill Bethany... That's what anyone with such intentions would get... without mercy...
Way I did it, I killed Keran when he told me they took her.... Then I wanted to reason with Thrask... But Grace ruined it ... so yeah... no mercy

Heh, I remember that quest. It's such a tragedy that that a**hole Ser Karras lived and Thrask died. I wanted to side with them and see Meredith off before the end of the game. Have to say, killing Meredith was the most satisfying thing I did in-game since romancing all four LIs with one utterly shameless Hawke (that's a joke; I did do all three, but on separate characters, and sometimes with repeats).

I came close. Honestly, none of my Hawkes, even the ones I allowed to side with her, were willing to put up with her crap.
Don't understand the templars. They do terrible things to the mages, deprive them of their families and any friends they had, make them sound like monsters if they don't agree to live in the Circle, then point to the rare moments of crazy blood mages/abominations/Tevinter and claim this is the will of the Maker. I wasn't aware the Maker liked people to discriminate against their fellow man.

Now there are great people in the templars who genuinely believe in their work (Thrask, and to an extent Greagoir), and considering the things Cullen went through at the Ferelden Circle I understand why he might be a bit harsh in his judgement, but with the current model of templars I think they're in the wrong line of work.

Compare/contrast Ser Alrik (a templar Hitler if ever there was one) and Ser Karras (who, despite the determination I have to kill him and take his brilliant sword for personal use, always lasts until the end of the game because my respect for Thrask outways my contempt for his friend).

if my home was destroyed, i'd wanna kill the guy who did it too. besides, i think anders could've bombed the gallows instead and gotten the same result more or less: meredith goes crazy and reveals that the rumors about her were right; mages everywhere are inspired and rebel. i understand killing the templars, but bombing the chantry was unnecessary. anders screwed up. he could have been a cool revolutionary, instead he's just a terrorist.

Anders wouldn't destroy gallows for 1 reason - There were mages inside too,not just templars... Doing so, he would also kill Bethany, for that I'd kill him without hesitation, but that aside...Chantry has the real power over the Circles. They just use templars as "police"

actually, in a party banter with sebastian and aveline, sebastian mentions how meredith stopped taking elthina's advice. basically, she's not obligated to follow the grand cleric's word. elthina also mentioned that the chantry has been the buffer between the templars and circle for years, which is why orsino goes to elthina when he wants a compromise of some sort (ex: just before anders blew up the chantry, orsino was going to get elthina about a problem he was having with meredith). it is actually the "words of the maker and andraste" that is the true power over the templars. elthina worked as the middle ground between the two for years, which is why anders killed her. he didn't want another compromise. he wanted a war. however, he still could've gotten that war if he had just bombed templar hall, which is devoid of mages save for a few tranquils and orsino, but it's not like he cares about orsino. elthina's great crime was inaction. meredith and the templars were the real problems. that's why i think what anders did was unnecessarily extreme for his cause. he didn't have to kill the grand cleric and spill innocent blood to get the result he wanted.

if you rivalmance sebastian, kill anders, and side with the mages then sebastian does stay with you and even mentions that what happened to the mages was wrong and is willing to fight for them by whatever means necessary. it's just anders he hates for killing his mother figure and destroying his home.
