Description A shot from the recent zoo trip.

A picture of an orange-banded butterfly in the butterfly garden. This is the first time I've been able to photograph one! Actually, I lied. I have one other photo of an orange-banded butterfly but it didn't turn out that well. This one is much better, in my opinion.

I edited this somewhat extensively. And I still couldn't quite get it how I wanted. Those leaves were just SO bright in the sunlight. I darkened them quite a bit and tried to tone down the highlights but I really wanted the butterfly to have that stark contrast. I guess I'm just too picky with myself.

I also had to straighten this. The butterfly was crooked and actually...I kind of prefer how it looked before. But this isn't too bad, I hope.

Oooh. I love butterfly pics - perhaps because I know how hard they are to get.

The very first picture I ever took with my digital SLR was of a butterfly that had perched in a bush in our front yard - a rare occurrence. Fate must have placed it there just for me.

I adore photographing butterflies, obviously. They're among my favorite models. They're so gorgeous on their own, it seems like less work to get a great photo. But, yeah, if they're skittish, they're hella hard to photograph. That's why I love butterfly houses, lol.

I think you've done an awesome job with this one. Gorgeous contrast. That's a pretty awesome shot. This Spring/Summer I want to talk Barb into going to the butterfly thingy in near here so I can take pictures. C=

Thanks! Butterflies are definitely some of my favorite models. Butterfly houses are either hit-or-miss, though. They're great because the butterflies are a bit calmer and used to humans so they pose more readily. But then, the houses are generally crowded in any weather and the other people can easily disturb shots. And then I always feel so inadequate when the big photographers come in with their monstrous cameras and I have my dinky little one. My current camera is MUCH larger than my old one and looks more professional but it still can't compare with those giant cameras the professionals lug around.
