Gruff is a Brute Warwolf, and a hairy fellow to boot. His skin and fur is a burnished, gun-metal grey, his hair the same but giving way to bronze at the ends. Brutes are a natural evolution in the Warwolf species - bigger, stronger - the definitive Alpha males and females. They tower over regular Warwolves, let alone the other species living in the City; and Gruff is a particularly large specimen, standing just shy of 8' tall and 4' across the shoulders, and weighs in around 375lbs.

Gruff works as part of the RIOT Squad of the City Police Department and is responsible for crowd dispersal and 'heavy duty' policing where and when needed. His formidable size and strength give him an advantage in this area as he physically resembles a large fur-covered brick wall and frequently uses lumps of debris, cardoors or signposts as temporary weapons in a serious scuffle.

Although to most non-Warwolves, Gruff seems an intimidating prospect at best, his charisma always seems to shine through - fortunate, since unlike fellow Police officer Feiver, Gruff could probably be out-thought by a cheese wheel. Were it not for his intellectual inadequacy, it is quite likely Gruff would have become an Ambassador of the Midgar Wolves, his family - being born of the leaders of the pack, he is a Prince to all but his superior officers.

Whatever the case, Gruff enjoys his job, and his family are happy to let him work where he feels most suited. The rising issue of his innumerable illegitimate children is becoming a most vexing concern, however...
