You gotta wonder how two Nintendo franchises could have very different results. Β I shudder to think of what would happen to Mario...Related content

I love Ash's XY design, he looks so real and mature, but in Sun and Moon he looks so flat and vacant, I do hope that the next gen will bring back the XY desgin.

Why you don't like Sun and Moon's new artstyle anyway?
I think X and Y anime is very overrated tbh...

I love ash's new look, and I think they are taking a good direction on the artstyle bacause the anime is geared towards a younger audience. It was probably a conscious decision at least.

So, in your opinion - in future all popular franchises with high quality art styles p will be have downgraded art style?!

"will be have downgraded art style?!" don't exactly get what you mean there, but I'm assuming your saying that my opinion is that popular franchises should downgrade their art styles. My answer is no. Of course not. I think people have a messed up idea of what classifies as a good art style.
Art style always appeals to the intended target audience, which for Pokemon is young children. The art style is bouncy and colourful and catches their eye. The art style has function. Not only that, the quality of an art style isn't on how much shading or, in case of games, how high res the textures are etc. Take Rick and Morty, even though they could have made a super hard to draw time consuming art style, they went with a simple one. This takes off a lot of load from animators and can be more appealing. Sometimes less is more.
Although I will have to say that there was widespread criticism for the art style, it did not occur to 4kids/the Pokemon anime team because an older audience wasn't even on their minds. So I can't really blame them for not appealling to you. I bet the majority of people just hate it because they feel like they are being kicked in the butt and The anime team is basically telling them "This is a kid's show! Why are you still watching?!" and that can cause some frustration in anyone.
In the end this is my opinion and majority rules I suppose. But I find it really unfair that people call it a downgrade, why not just say that it doesn't match your taste instead of saying it is inherently flawed. Anything can be hated by the right person.
PS This is a huge accusation to begin with, nowhere in my post did I insinuate that I would like the Pokemon anime to downgrade their art style.

While yes the animation style is different, but in Sun and Moon Ash, Ash is still expressive and it's getting more
of a combination of it's kanto(which is comedy) he still has his knowledge of battling Pokemon, and few times
he actually lost to team rocket because of the advantage of they have with pokemon type advantage and one
their pokemon having a 'vendetta' against pikachu.
While yes the animation quality of XY&XYZ is very overall polish, the animation of him being expressive is not
varied like Sun and moon. It's still would be hard to judge if you haven't watch the parts of the sun&moon
to just make judgements of the anime if you only look over the aesthetics of the anime rather than just judging
the parts of episodes.
And seriously comparing Ocarina of Time and Breath of the wild is also a bad comparison as they both take
different timeline/both are different zeldas. Not only that the gameplay between the two games ARE vastly
different. As breath of the wild is a open world adventure game, while orcarina of time is an adventure game.
Now if you compare Ocarina of time from the 90's and the remake
ocarina of time of time it would've make a better comparison because the remake of ocarina of time is almost
exactly like the original with updated graphics.

You mistake my reasoning on Zelda. Β I compared OoT Zelda to BotW Zelda because OoT Zelda is the best-known incarnation. Β As such, every Zelda following her is measured up to her in comparison, and many of her successors had similar facial features (toons not included). Β Zelda's design in BotW is pretty different from how she is in OoT, but it's done so well that most fans love it.

Again, quality of a character should not only be the thing
that should be judged. Before you say that Zelda toon should
not be included, it should be included because that in itself
is in the LOZ timeline. Alot of people compared the Toon Zelda
to other zeldas because she's considered to be very independent
and other zelda fans enjoy her character a lot.
The same can be said to skyward sword Zelda because she has
a lot more personality and she's the 'reason' why Link wants to
save her because they share a close connection.
There some people who still considered Oot close to their hearts
because of nostalgia but you could say they're always blinded by
nostalgia. But that's what fans who love the games do.
Even then, XY and XY&Z still has flaws, not saying that sun
and moon doesn't have flaws. It still has flaws overall, it did
improve the anime by a lot but there some cases where it
does has flaws where it's strong point is focusing on battles.
I wouldn't say too much on the contest because, my only
gripe with the contests is they showcase it rather short. Some
of the rivals of the contests were cut off...that's my problem
with the XY and XY&Z is that it cut off some scenes that
became anticlimantic as to who win or who lost. Like how
does Jessie get all her contest keys? We don't know cause we
never get to see that.
Again while I'm not saying Sun&Moon isn't perfect but what
they're trying to go for a comedic side of the anime like how
Kanto it was back then, but still retains some battles or light
heart plot development for the characters. There's also a serious
moments as well. While Lillie may not be the same from the game
but the anime does not want to retold the 'story' again from the
perspective like the game and wanted to try something different
with her character. Overall better judgement of the anime is
just watch the episode or a couple of episodes. If you don't like
it then yeah I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea but
don't judge the anime of it's entirely because you only seen the
preview and think ugh this anime quality is shit. Seriously though
there's good animation people who can animate without being
professionally with high quality art can do fluid movements.

I never discounted the toons. Β I was merely stating that their facial features were different from OoT's Zelda since they were of a different art style. Β As such, comparing them to OoT's Zelda isn't fair.

How is comparing to oot and BoW is considered fair? Just judging by appearance itself isn't fair.

BUT THEY ALREADY DID THIS!!! (I believe when Black and White stardet) AND IT WORKED!!!!
Why did they felt to do it again?!

I don't see the problem with Ash's design.
The random facial animations may be...off pudding yeah, but aside from that, he looks fine.
I mean, I do prefer the XY & Z style, by a thousand miles, but in the SM style, Ash has never been more expressive and full of life.
Heck, he even looks like an actual kid now (I mean he is 10, it kinda makes sense).
I personally think the SM style is a temporary choice, given Alola's brighter tone and nature compared to previous regions, so chances are, Ash will be back to his normal self by Gen 8.

Zelda looks undeniably gorgeous in BOTW, no doubt about that.
...Nuff said.

ZachaRicO In reply to Chao-Traveler [2017-03-04 22:38:08 +0000 UTC]
I have similar thoughts on his SM design: that it's only temporary, and THANK ARCEUS because there have only been a few times thus far where it actually looks okay (like the ending of the episode where he caught Rockruff, yay!). Β I personally hate it, and I intend to hate it until the Miltanks come home. Β As such, we'll just agree to disagree on that.
And yes, Zelda looks amazing in Breath of the Wild. Β Heck, let's be honest here: that whole game looks amazing. Β And I'm saying that when I don't consider myself a Zelda fan!
So have you gotten the Switch yet?

Chao-Traveler In reply to ZachaRicO [2017-03-04 22:40:05 +0000 UTC]

Even if your not a fan of LOZ, I still recommend giving Breath of the Wild a chance. It's easily a game you will not be able to put down for hours.
...No...not yet. XD
I want it so badly...

It's certainly a compelling game. Β My older brother's a bigger Zelda fan than I am, so he'll probably get it.
And don't worry; you're not the only one without a Switch. Β It'll probably be some time before my parents let us get it. Because of that, chances are good my brother will get BotW for Wii U.
