The Cynic
__________
The most repugnant use of intelligence, the cynic plays with the blood of his pawns.
This is the black and white pen and ink drawing without any digital applications of color. I drew this using white gel pens on black paper, and then repeatedly would switch between using black microns over white ink etc.. There's so much hatching and layering here, I feel that it's not really possible to capture it through the scan, but I did the best I could.

My friend had just recently lent me this incredible huge book on Bosch-I had always loved the work of his that Iβd seen, but this book blew my mind with the quality of the pictures and details, the amount of insane detail and delicacy (not to mention creativity!) blew my socks off. Definitely inspired this drawing for sure! Thank you for the feedback too!

It really depends. This one I spent a week on, but I have been alternating between this and another drawing. In general, especially when it comes to pen and ink, I will spend about 2-3 weeks.
As for stippling-I definitely use that in some of my pictures-but I try to avoid it (for some reason it seems insanely tedious, which is a bit ironic lol), I didnβt (stipple) with this drawing though. I like to use very fine tip pens (.003) and I use hatching to build up my shadows and to knock back certain elements. I generally donβt commit to bold lines until the very end.
A lot of people work the opposite way which makes sense, but I usually wing it on the pen and ink drawings and see where my marks take me, I donβt use thumbnails or pencils so I have no idea what I am actually doing (the one exception is for my serif drawing). This is also why it takes so long lol!
