Description
Quick stats:6,040 triangles and 3,022 verts total.
Diffuse, specular, and normal maps at 2048x2048 each.
So!
I just started using zBrush and decided to pick a relatively simplistic design to take all the way from sculpt to final materials. This ornamental sign is officially my first piece of zBrush artwork. Fun program!
The design is by James Gurney, from one of his Dinotopia books. Brilliant stuff, and perfect for anyone looking for a set of simple sculpting designs to start with. I'll get to concepting my own sculpts eventually, but this time around I just really wanted to get started messing around with zBrush as quickly as possible!
There are a few things missing from this, admittedly, such as a reflection map and any kind of lettering on the painted wood surface. I might go back and add those later. I could post up the wires or sculpt if anyone is interested.
More to come, er... eventually! Criticism welcome, as always.

cool work - did you bump in a displacement map first or just sculpt from scratch? crit-wise the only thing i can think of is that perhaps the metal is not smooth enough to come across as really metallic - this sort of reminds me more of stone carving (altho having a reflection map would probably make all the difference to a metallic look )
i've gone from flat sculpting to working from zspheres now and i'm loving the program more and more as i learn more about it!

Thanks, I sculpted from a simple mockup mesh that I made in max. Yeah, I was going for a hand-made artifact kind of look so I applied a generic normals overlay to the final textures. A good reflection map would probably be the best thing to help the metal appearance, along with tweaking the spec settings probably.
I haven't messed with zspheres yet, but I've heard a lot of good things about them so I'll probably start as soon as my copy arrives. (made this on the demo)

Thanks, Joe! I'd love to see what kind of stuff you're doing with it. I mostly just waste away the hours making canyons, heheh.

Very cool :]
I still can't get the hang of zbrush yet, I'm so jealous of some of the sculpts I see....
wood texture looks a little big...
I love the dinos on the top

Yeah, the wood didn't turn out too great, heheh. I blew up the alpha too big and it ended up all blocky... should have waited to put that on the final normal as a texture effect instead of putting it on the sculpt. Lesson learned!
