Edge sighed and, still keeping his jaw shut, asked, "What's that for?" He kept his eyes closed, not sure he could take seeing his brother's expression.

"shut up," was Red's only reply as he began gently rubbing his brother's maw with his thumb as he continued to heal it.

Edge opened his eyes, then narrowed them. "Sans, we can't," he asserted, though his voice tremored. It felt so good. He needed this so much. Needed so much more… which was why he could not allow it.

Red looked down at his brother sadly. "do you want me to stop, boss?" He asked barely above a whisper.

Edge's eyes took on an unfamiliar tilt, his brow knitting upward instead of downward. His jaw began to quiver, which led to a quietly choked sound of pain. "No.... but... we...."

"hopefully it won't matter soon," Red urged.

Edge squeezed his eyes shut, and with quiet anguish, whispered, "I can't take hope anymore."

This is an illustration of part of mine and Kate's Undertale/Underfell RP, titled: "ANGST." Yup, fitting. I've had artblock for 2 months, but KaptinKate drawing in a stream finally inspired me to get off my butt and try a quick sketch... Except it turned into an actual full-blown thing. Whoops?

In this story, which I will link to when we're finished editing it, our version of Underfell makes "kill or be killed" a mandatory way of life, decided long ago by King Asgore to keep monsters strong, weeding out the weak, so they could fight more effectively against humans. Kindness is weakness. Love is forbidden. Sans (Red) and Papyrus (Edge) care deeply for one another, but must remain distant at all times, or they risk being caught. They desperately need physical contact, but try not to give in. But with one wounded and the other healing him, the temptation was far too strong.

Enjoy this snippet of a platonic/brotherly love story, full of painful longing.
