Description Some time has passed since Kion and his Guard joined the Night Pride at the Tree of Life. Here they are in all their glory, ready to begin their daily morning patrol! Here’s my imagined update on each of their lives, since I’ve really missed this show and am hungry for a fourth season:

Kion: Despite being an amazing leader, he was really awkward at his whole king role at first. He wasn’t trained by Simba to be a ruler, unlike his sister Kiara. Sure, he could solve disputes and protect everyone from threats, but when it came to mingling with his subjects and attending to everyday royal duties, he tended to stumble on his words and make a few somewhat embarrassing mistakes (Rani thought it was cute though and gave him constant encouragement!). Now, he’s learned to balance his kingly duties with his guard duties, and he’s learned all kinds of new tricks with his roar. He’s as close to his friends as ever and they get together just to chat and have fun once almost every week. And his mane is finally starting to grow in, much to his relief!

Fuli: She really enjoys patrolling with Kion and the others and has become practically a sister to him. Kion is the one she feels most comfortable talking to, and Kion feels the same. As much as she loves being with her old friends, she often hangs out with Azaad, and early morning runs are routine for them (sometimes Kion and Rani join them!). She has become a little more reserved but still has her cocky streak and loves being on the move and seeing the sights at the Tree of Life.

Bunga: He and Binga are a thing now, and they spend every second they get competing with one another. However, Binga hasn’t replaced Kion as his best friend and the two sometimes hang out together or play some baobab ball when Kion isn’t busy (which unfortunately for Bunga, isn’t very often). He’s become more mature, to the relief of his friends, but hasn’t lost his childlike and carefree nature. He loves exploring and looking for the highest thing he can jump off of. And of course, he’s still stinky as ever.

Beshte: He’s gotten bigger, and of course his heart has, too. He loves helping out animals in need; it helps him make lots of new friends! When he’s not on patrol, he’s out meeting every new animal he sees. He knows almost everyone at the Tree of Life now, and everyone knows him and is his friend. And he still takes his job as “Poa the Lifesaver” seriously; he’s saved many animals in a scrape. He still hasn’t met that special someone yet, but he hangs out with Baliyo often, who assures him he’ll find someone soon. After all, everyone likes him! How hard could it be?

Ono: He’s taken the time to learn all about the many different habitats and animals of the Tree of Life. He is the first one Kion consults when making a decision or dealing with a crisis. Kion considers Ono to be his unofficial royal advisor, in fact, and has him give a report of his observations at the end of each day (much like Zazu’s morning report). His eyesight, unfortunately, has not gotten much better, but it is sufficient and he is happy the way he is. He enjoys flying around with Anga or conversing with Ullu the owl. One of his favorite things to do each morning is to get up early and watch the sunrise before patrol starts.

Anga: She and Ullu faithfully serve as the lookouts for the kingdom. She enjoys training with Ono, and secretly, she admires his wisdom and intellect and wants to learn as much as she can from him. She misses the Pridelands, but has come to love her new home and the spectacular views it has to offer. She loves the thrill of being in action during patrols and has become a very skilled fighter. Sometimes she accompanies Fuli and Azaad on their runs and flies along with them.

Makini: She does an excellent job serving as the royal mjuzi, though she sometimes feels under qualified. She feels she is constantly making mistakes, but Rani always tells her how great she’s doing. She gets Rani and Kion up when it’s time for their respective patrols and often accompanies Rani on her diplomatic responsibilities and serves as her confidante. She loves planning out and attending royal ceremonies and tends to go all out for them (especially with the decorating). When she’s not busy scheduling meetings with the King or Queen or preparing ceremonies, she can be found painting in the Tree or out gathering fruits for her paint. She has an extensive collection of paintings throughout the whole interior of the Tree.

A/N: Hi everyone! Sorry I haven’t posted any artwork for so long, but this is why. This took me a month to complete (probably the longest I’ve ever spent on a drawing), and I have to say, I love how it turned out! I’m still new at doing landscapes, so it may not look amazing compared to other people’s artwork, but I’m really happy with how the characters look. I didn’t do any tracing at all, I’m proud to admit, because I think I’ve drawn these characters enough that I don’t need to anymore. I wanted to include the Night Pride too, but that would have taken me even longer, and I doubt I could even squeeze them in (Although if you look closely in the background, I did include Rani in there!). I’ve heard some suggestions of what the fourth season should be called, since they’re not the Lion Guard anymore, and a name I really liked was Defenders of the Tree of Life (which I do not take credit for), hence the name of this artwork. I hope you’re all doing well, I know this virus has made our lives very frustrating, but it seems like it finally could be on its way out. We can get through this! Stay safe and healthy (and maybe go re-watch some Lion Guard to pass the time!). Thanks for reading this ridiculous long block of text (or essay, whatever you want to call it) 😂

I really like this. You did a wonderful job!
Do you think you can do something like this for the Royal Family of the Pridelands?

Really good work. I'm hoping that Disney will continue the saga of The Lion Guard either by a fourth season or a comic book. Or both. A comic book worked for Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, as it did for Firefly and Batman Beyond, so why not here? And the comic book would be family-friendly and focus on the backstories of the characters we got to know in the assumed last season.

You're welcome. I know I'd be happy too. Maybe when and/or if they go with the comic book, there can be an online session where the cast members from the show read their character's lines in the comic book. Grey Griffin did it for Azula in Avatar: The Last Airbender's comic book The Search, as did Dante Basco for Zuko. And maybe, just maybe, at one point Kion goes on some journey from the Tree of Life to wherever he's going like Zuko did for the Fire Nation in the post-series comic book. I mean, kings can be diplomats too, as well as travelers.

Like I said, Kion could become a diplomat. Was it just me or did the ending feel underwhelming?

I thought I was the only one! I liked the Power of the Roar song from the third season end credits; it had such a lovely tune. No news yet on the fourth season though Ford Riley said he'd like to continue the saga. Which means there's hope. Besides, there's a lot that can be explored.

And even if we do get a fourth season, it'll probably won't be for another few years. Or when and/or if we do get a comic book, it'll also take a few years. As the Brave Little Toaster would say, "At least we'll try to be optimistic."
