Description
TW for suicide mention at the end. Just skip the "Other" section if you don't want to see itName: Aldwyn ('Al' or 'Ald' for short)
Gender: Male
Age: 133
Nest: Marsh Nest
Rank: Tavern Owner
Background: Believe it or not, Aldwyn used to get into a lot of fights when he was younger. Not because he was a troublemaker but because he used to be very hot-tempered. Wait no, I gotta go back a bit in order for you to understand that... Alright so, Aldwyn is hard of hearing and before you ask no, he didn't suffer any accident or illness, he was simply born like that. And because of this, other children used to tease him. For example, sometimes he wouldn't understand what people said so he would often be all "what?" or "huh??" and others would laugh and joke that he was 'deaf' and he used to get really upset and defensive whenever that happened and, I mean, he's a Marsh caeli through and through so it wasn't unusual for him to get defensive to the point of using violence to shut them up. And that's why he would get into a lot of fights when he was younger.
However, that changed when he met Dahlia (who back then was still known as 'Dallin'). Dahlia was unlike everyone else, she was nice and patient with him and she understood that his hearing wasn't the best but never once called him out on it or teased him- heck, she even developed a form of cued speech that would make him understand her easily. They were what you would call best friends and were pretty much joined at the hip; you would never see Aldwyn without Dahlia and vice-versa. They did have their fights but they didn't last longer than a couple of days as they would be quick to apologise for whatever they'd done wrong (most of the time they were nothing but misunderstandings). But one day, Dahlia started pushing him away, preferring to be alone instead. Aldwyn could feel she wasn't alright, he could feel that she was upset about something but didn't know what was or how to help so he chose to simply let her know that he was there for anything, that he would always be there whenever she needed him. That was around the time that Dahlia, with tears streaming down her face and eyes filled with shame, told him that she didn't feel like a boy at all, that she was a girl and- I mean, Aldwyn didn't even blink. He didn't think it was weird or anything- sure, he didn't exactly understand it but it didn't bother him either. All he wanted was for Dahlia to smile again and seeing her crying made him sad. So he just said 'okay' and stopped using male pronouns on her, he even helped her pick a new name- Dahlia.
Then Aldwyn realised that he was very much in love w Dahlia. And Dahlia also realised that but they were young and dumb and shy so it took them a while to actually start dating each other. They did this weird thing where they ignored the ginormous pink elephant in the room and man, that went on for a while. But when they finally did start dating, it just felt so natural and it wasn't awkward at all. They had a very healthy relationship and they still continued to be best friends even though they were also lovers now. It was also Dahlia's idea to buy the tavern and ran it themselves as you can see here . They restored the place and got it running- him as the owner and she as the tavern maiden (even tho she was as much of the owner as he was)- and everything was going great and when little Diane, their daughter, came to life (actually, Dahlia found the little baby one day and just took her home), Aldwyn was so very happy. He had everything he wanted and he was happy - they were happy.
Then one day Aldwyn told Dahlia and Diane they could go ahead and leave earlier, saying that he would close up the tavern. But on their way home, Dahlia and Diane got attacked by some other predator (Marsh is very dense and there are still some predators there unlike the other nests). So when Aldwyn did finally managed to close up the place and head home, he was met with the worst thing he could ever think. Halfway through the track back home, Aldwyn found Dahlia dead, her body torn apart and his daughter gasping for breath, gashes along her lithe body and blood- there was so much blood. But she was still alive and Aldwyn thought she would make it but her injuries were too bad, too deep and she had lost a lot of blood so, she too, passed away.
It might sound cliché but that did change his life, it changed him too. He closed the tavern for a while after that. He couldn't go back to that place, couldn't even go out of the house. He felt lost and desperate and he missed them so damn much. He lost sleep, couldn't close his eyes without nightmares of that night haunting him every minute. He was grieving and he was depressed and he kept praying for it all to be a dream. Praying and crying and praying and crying- but no amount of prayers and tears would bring them back, he realised.
He blames himself for that night. He's riddled with guilt because he believes it's his fault they're dead. That if he hadn't told them to go ahead, if he had walked them home like he was supposed to, Dahlia and Diane would still be alive.
But he did manage to get back up, he did open up the tavern again. I mean, the tavern had been Dahlia's dream and he wanted to honour her, he wanted something to remember her by and all he had left was that damned place so he worked and he worked and he worked. Because as long as he was busy, he wouldn't think about it.
It's been 37 years since that night but he still hasn't forgotten. There are days where he still cries, nights where he wakes up with a scream in his throat and the images of his wife and daughter dead in the back of his eyelids. He can deal with it now but some days it's still hard. But he's figuring it out, he's healing. Slowly, but he's doing it.
Personality: Thoughtful | Courteous | Ascetic | Intense |
I did say Aldwyn was a Marsher through and throught but that doesn't mean his mother didn't try to raise him right. Plus, he's old and he's been through a lot he's had his rebelious years and he's grown since then. He's thoughtful of others and of certain situations, he likes to think things through before acting on anything - it just makes everything so much easier for him and so less exhausting. He's not one to judge without reason. His mother was actually the daughter of a very proper Star citizen but due to certain things, was disowned and ended up in Marsh but ! she still tried to instill in Aldwyn proper manners, even though when he was a kid he barely paid attention to any of it, but he's glad for it now that he's older. He's respectful and considerate of others because of her teachings which is why he's such a good host at the tavern.
However, also because of the things he's been through, Aldwyn denies himself things. Which is clear in his relationship with Levi; He's trying to work on it, obviously (especially now with Levi) but it's hard. He's always denied himself things that'd bring him happiness or pleasure because he felt (and still feels) like he doesnt deserve it.
On a completely different note, Aldwyn can be pretty damned intense. He has this "Look"; that comes out whenever someone's done something that makes him angry- it's almost like a completely shift in personality. But his anger isn't boisterous or anything, it's quiet and cold and distand but it pins you down with just a look. It's not something you want directed at you honestly.
Relationships:
Ø Dahlia - Wife and best friend (deceased)
Ø Diane - Daughter (deceased)
Ø Levi - -[It's Complicated] It's very difficult to tell what exactly Levi and Aldwyn's relationship is. Levi is, to date, the closest caeli to Aldwyn and someone who he treasures immensely. Aldwyn loves Levi, he truly does but life isn't that easy and neither is Aldwyn. Aldwyn can't just let go of the past to be with Levi and Levi.... Levi still has a lot of walls around him that's not willing to break down for Aldwyn yet and he respects that. Still, they know they love each other and their companionship is what matters at this point.
Ø Patzivota [Great Friend] - Ivo, as Aldwyn likes to call her, is one of his oldest friends. She's always been pretty much been there as far as Al can remember; she was there when Diane came to be and used to dote on her as much as possible, often offering to look after the kid when Aldwyn and Dahlia wanted some alone time. She was also the one that helped Aldwyn through their deaths, through his grievance; the one that kept him from ending it all. He owes her a lot which is part of the reason why he always refills her glass for free at the tavern (the other is simply because he really likes and cares for her).
Ø Coyotl [Acquaintance] - Aldwyn doesn't really have any sort of friendship with Coyotl. He's civil towards him, like he is towards everyone. He just knows him a little better than others because Coyotl was the one that tried to save his daughter and he will sometimes visit the tavern.
Ø Cain [Enemy] - Possibly the only caeli that Aldwyn cannot stand. He doesnt let Cain anywhere near the tavern and will honestly try to attack him if Cain even breaths a different way. He just effing despises him.
Ø Aldwyn is OPEN FOR ANY TYPE OF RELATIONSHIPS !!
Ø Common Standard Breed
Ø Common cervine ears
Ø Common Short Tail (Crooken Tip)
Ø Common Membrane Wings
Other:
Ø Aldwyn is HOH and, because of it, he always pays close attention to a caeli's lips when they speak and can easily read other's body language;
Ø He's not very talkative but he's a great listener;
Ø He has seriously thought about commiting suicide before (after his family's death, life just seemed kinda pointless) and there are days where the thought still lingers in the back of his mind;
Ø He has Chronic Depression (Dysthymia);
Ø He still gets nightmares and flashbacks of the night his family died every now and then;
Ø Lastly, he is Panromantic and Demisexual.
