Description
Dusk's falling on my decadent reality. My everyday landscape keeps drowning, I'm a microscopic orange stain in a rusty universe. I hope you'll come tonight... Surprising thread of my thoughts, my guide and lover, let me cross again the dark frontier of my fantasies! So close but uncertain to reach, this blurry paradise hides behind my eyelids.Release me... and I'll fade like a drop in the infinite ocean of a dream.

'Below the Rust' is actually my biggest painting (it is 1.2 x 0.8 meters wide), and the one I have spent the longest time on. Five months, doing an average half-time work. The fact is that I can't help myself doing those small details that nobody can see. Using a 1-hair brush on a canvas that wide is totally insane!
This is only oil paint on canvas, but before starting to paint I made many sketches, and even a colorized version with photoshop (to set up the right colors).

I love this piece. Every time i see it, I click on it and stare for a few. It gives such a magnificent feel. First of all, the sheer amount of talent and detail that has obviously gone into this piece is simply mind-blowing! The transitions especially, like the fish to robo-fish and the metal-to-cloth visage on the girl. Your colors are also highly effective, giving people strong impressions about both worlds. The underwater area is serene, peaceful, and the delicate kind of place that everyone would like to live, but as it is underwater, it is unnatainable to most. In contrast, the world above is harsh, stagnant, and a cold place to live, but as it is the one with a human's requirements for life, they have no choice but to exist there.
What i love most about this picture, though, are the symbols that are represented. First and foremost, in my mind, is the contrast between the metallic feel to the world above, where humans have no choice to dwell, and the alluring beauty of the world below, which can represent the ideal place that those living cannot achieve. Sorry for bringing religion in, but it, to me, represents Heaven.
The next symbol is the girl. She is obviously wet. Whether it's from her traveling or something else, I have a specific way that I've interpreted it. She has tried to get to that perfect world below her, because, in essence, its just outside of her reach, so it feels like if she tries, she can get there, and here is a shot of one of her attempts. That chain is just proof her inability to go further. And that it, too, is part of the rusted world shows how bound to it she is as a person.
Another unique feel to this picture is the fact it's an Atlantis of sorts, a grand city underwater. BEcause of it, your city has a feel of falseness to it, like if you allowed the water to ripple, it would all vanish into the depths, simply because of its delicacy. Also, when compared to the rusty world, this one is limitless; there are no boundaries. It would support far more people than the small blocky buildings could ever hope to.
Sorry for this long comment; feel free to remove it. I just love to show-off (Read: snob-off) my thoughts. It kinda stems from wondering if that was what you were aiming for. Thank you for sharing this piece.

Amazing detail. Kinda reminds me of Water 7 from One Piece, or Venice, Italy. I miss Venice One day wasn't enough for me to fully appreciate it.

Venice .. It's both inspiring and overwhelming to behold that every square inch of that city is a pile of several century-old layers of art. I've been there last year; the painting is older, it was inspired by a massive submarine base in France, remains of WWII.
