Whee...I finally finished it!
Here is my half of an art trade with , wherein she wished for a Zelgadis in modern clothes, in an autumn setting. ^_^ I have always thought ponds and lakes to be very relaxing and a good place to think, and I have a feeling that a modern Zel would frequent the local parks or ponds for some quality alone time.
Leaf boats are cathartic, I tell you.
This picture was a lot of fun to do, not only because I got to paint my favorite Slayers character, but I also got the chance to use a lot of different tools and brushes. And may I say...the Seurat brush works wonders for background trees. *grin*

like omg whoa. -Nice- work. I really like the background; the trees especially have a very impressionistic look that I adore. And, well, Zel. I'm a fool for 'im. Good detail and just the right posture an atmosphere.

Aw, well thank you very much! I'm actually still quite pleased with how this picture came out. It's one of the few I've used an outside reference on, and I think I should probably do it more often, since I usually suck at backgrounds. *laughs* Having a park right across the street is wonderful sometimes. ^_^

Thanks very much! ^_^ Yeah, this was a fun painting to do, really...lots of techniques present in this one. ^^ And nope, the shoes comment really isn't random at all; a lot of people have brought them to my attention, which I think is just cool. ^_^ My roommate is very proud that his shoes got some spotlight. *laughs*

That's soooo awesome though... Do I even want to know how much work was put into the lawn alone? The lining... oooooh the lining...
I think the rock under Sel's eye looks a little weird, but the pic is so great...

Oh wow...the lawn probably took me about 45 minutes to an hour, if I remember correctly. All those little grasses to draw out...O.o
Rock under Zel's eye...oh, you mean the little ones there? Heh I may have made them too big. He has a couple little rock chips under his left eye there that I'm just fixated on. Yes, I need help. *laughs*
*cackle* Oh trust me, if you've seen any part of my gallery, you know that I don't do many backgrounds. ^^ I'm trying to be better about that though. Practicing does help a lot.

HOLY CRAP. O_O This is AMAZING. I thought the background was a photograph from the thumbnail O__O The water is perfectly done.. and the trees... and even the sky is the perfect color @____@ Holy craaaaap~~

Thank you very much, this picture was quite fun to do. I'm actually amazed that the water came out as well as it did, because it's one of the toughest things for me to do. Go figure. *snicker* However, it WAS fun to paint, and the fact that it came out well just added to the amusement factor.

first off... FULL DETAIL BG *drool* that is friggin AWESOME. The detail is amazing! (like you havent heard THAT already ^.^) But jeez! Makes me want to get off my butt RIGHT NOW and paint some realism. The way you did the leaf colors and the water and the perspective... it looks like you did that stright from a photo! And ZEL! Who knew hed look so cool in modern clothes! He looks like a college student...a... um... human/golem/demon college student O_o;; nevermind. He looks so thoughtful and serene, and the pose and anatomy are PERFECT! his clothes look so real too...*looks at shoes* expessially those. But jeez! you put a lot of work into this! The effect you achieved on the water is simply beautiful; the grass is also quite lovely. Zel himself is just awesome...his pose is skillful, and the highlights on his coat are quite well done.
Overall, though, my favorite part of this is the mood. Very nice--thoughtful and Zel-like. Good work. :3

Thank you, I wouldn't have been able to do it without the wonderful, magical use of Painter and its layers. ^^ I had a lot of support and inspiration for this picture, and I was really excited about it...I think it shows a little.
Yeah, I wanted to make it Zel-ish, but not the overly-angsty Zel...it would have been too incongruous with the lightness of the background. ^_^

Hallo! ^_^ I'm glad you like ze piccie... the background is a product of studying an actual park, with some reference sketches. The colors and textures are a combination of layers and many, many different brushes.

Wow... My guess is that you'll be doing more easy, sketchy, doodles for a while until your brain (and stylus fingers) have healed.
On another note, it looks like one of those moments that I expect Amelia (heh, because I can't) to come into the scene and...well, I don't know if she would pounce on him- but I would. Yes, I would so risk bruising myself just to tackle him. =^.^=

I really enjoyed drawing Zel in this setting...I wanted to make sure that he looked comfortable and not just having been grabbed by the scruff of the neck and dragged off into a different world, stuffed into modern clothes, and dropped off by a pond. ^_~
*laughs* You know, I wonder if Amelia would either pounce on him, sneak up on him, or push him in. ^__~ Probably only if she found him being all angsty and brood-y.

Now all this pic needs is a bunch of ducks, Zel with a bag of bread crumbs, and Xelloss in a brown trench coat asking "did you see the game?".
Nevertheless, this is freggin' gorgeousnessssss. I especially love the attention to detail in the water, particularly the reflection of the trees <3 <3

But seriously, this piece is gorgeous. My jaw actually dropped when I looked at it, you did so amazingly well on this I can't even tell you. I particularly love his shoes and the placement of his feet, that's just so wow. And the textures and the ripples on the water, and the placement of all the leaves and.... I could just go on and on. You did such an amazing job with this Zanne, I'm amazed. And I was really impressed by your work before I saw this, so that should tell you something right there.

I really appreciate your praise, I really do. Coming from someone who does such fantastic figurative work, it's a pleasure to be able to bask for a moment, before being pulled back down into the pile of unfinished work that is my art room.
I felt...I felt that I could really cut loose with this pic, and see if I couldn't bring back some of what really made me happy in those painting classes of long ago. ^^ I'm going to keep messing around, and try a few more new combinations, just to see what I can get away with. *giggle* For the first time in quite a while, I feel truly excited about where my art is going. As I have said before, the water was a happy accident, for the most part...I have never been particularly good at it, and having inspiration in front of me while doing it really helped. ^___^
