Taskmaster has the ability to perfectly mimic fighting styles, having incorporated techniques from a wide range of the best martial artists and weapons users on Earth. Taskmaster has always prefered to work behind the scenes training henchmen for other villains than acting on his own. His mercenary approach means he'll work for anyone who'll pay, leading to him having done work for the US military as well as villains.

Eventually Taskmaster discovered tha the nature of his powers had caused him to forget most of his past and personal life. The truth he uncovered was that he had been a S.H.I.E.L.D agent named Tony Masters, who had used an experimental serum to acquire his powers.
