More style experimentation, this time with what is actually a rather unusual subject for me... straight up fan service! Dead or Alive 5 comes out today, and it features characters from the Virtua Fighter series. What better what to celebrate that with a fantasy match between everyone's favorite sistahs.... who both became a whole lot lighter in the fifth entry. Lisa Hamilton/La Mariposa received a relatively small change in skin tone, but the change on Vanessa Lewis was pretty extreme.

This was born of a desire to make a more dynamic picture than I usually do, and the obvious choice was a fight scene. I had one in mind, but I also had this desire to do something fan service-y, since it's technically been a while since I've done anything with that intent. So I asked a friend with somewhat similar taste for some ideas, and after a bit of back and forth, making fun of the idea, telling me to draw dudes and whatnot, I finally got him to crack. These are two of his favorite fighting game ladies, and the stipulation was that Vanessa be in the dominant position. I decided to turn it into a faux fight scene type deal, and all of my desires were met.

My VF main got into DOA5 (Pai), but I actually prefer Vanessa more based on looks, and she's pretty fun to use as well. For me and my friend's sake, lets hope TecmoKoei decides to put her in as DLC... then she can really give Lisa a combat seminar.

I may not use this style again for a while, as I just got something of a job doing regular work on commission, and this certainly took a while to do. It aught to show up again sometime, perhaps with a less glistening look to it.

Oh yeah, and for those not in the know, "I'm a Fighter" was part of DOA5's promotional campaign, first featuring most of Kasumi's face drenched in sweat.
