Oh yeah, eyeglowing for a skele is a comforting gesture , I forgot that it's been a long time since we've seen someone glow , haha.

To me,Papyrus seemed to have SEEN the nightmare. Or maybe even.. caused it.
I have a stupid theory, and that's all it is. A theory. SO IF YOU, THE READER OF THIS COMMENT, DON'T LIKE IT, PLEASE DON'T SCREAM HATE COMMENTS TO ME!
....Anyway.
My theory is that Gaster is trying to make people remember him and he tries to use The Skeleton Bros. as his remaining connection to the Underground. He uses them and tries to place thoughts, memories, even dreams to try to make the people remember him.
But remember, this is just a theory. I have no REAL evidence to support this as well.
So please, if you disagree, just tell me your theory, if you have one. Or just tell me why you disagree.

It seems plausible, but then how did he interact with Alphys's phone?
I think Papyrus had noticed Asgore was going through a nightmare and acted as he would if Sans were having a nightmare and he glowed his eyes. I'm not sure if a skeleton's eye glow has any sort of affect on other monsters other than skeletons.
I have a feeling the dream Asgore was having had mostly to do with his anxiety for the past few weeks or so. Both Asgore and Alphys feel like there's a portion of their memory missing. Like a repressed memory, it could have partially tried to surface in his dream, but since this isn't just psychology, there are also missing pieces of reality at play, the dream seemed like Asgore was talking to nothing, as if there was supposed to be a cut scene but Gaster's sprite and dialogue had been deleted from the files.

Hmm... what u said about Asgore and Alphys having repressed memories trying to surface makes sense. Since Gaster fell into the CORE, he was erased from the files. But he still exists... in the Void. But since he is in the void he cannot contact or interact with anyone. But the memories of him had existed. The memories may be trying to, as you said, surface. But the files cannot allow it as it would not make any sense to Alphys or Asgore.

But I have been thinking of something. It’s more of a philosophical question which I find kinda hard to phrase but let me try.
If someone existed but then had been forgotten.p, had that person existed at all?
In my opinion, we cannot prove it. Since we don’t remember that person at all, we have no proof he had even existed.

Often times, it depends on the rules of the universe one is speaking of, when it comes to applying that philosophical question to fiction. Kind of how I handle time travel in fictional universes, it tends to be different depending on the universe in question.
It seems that in the handplates storyline, physically in the timeline Gaster still existed in the past. When he was "erased from existence" the physical parts of the universe didn't change, others' memories and perceptions of it did. The binders containing the information Gaster gathered from his projects still exist, just now everyone thinks Alphys wrote them and Asgore still managed to survive emotionally after Toriel left despite him not remembering Gaster's help throughout the ordeal. The imprint of Gaster's existence is still there. The entire comic itself states this fact by allowing us to see the entire past with Gaster, only with his face obscured. He hasn't been eliminated from the timeline, he's been eliminated from everyone's perception.
As for applying the philosophical question to actual reality, what you say is true. It's impossible to prove if anyone or anything has, in the past, been eliminated from existence. Our perceptions are very limited in that way. We can only rely on our memories and what we can find in the present, both often times fallible resources.

Papyrus does look a little creepy, staring at you while you sleep, but I think I'd be more worried about Flowey popping out of the floor and try to murder you in your sleep. So uh... Papyrus you keep doing that, anything is better than that psychopathic kid.

By panel three I was, "oh yeah, we're in nightmare city" but DAMN, it's effectively conveyed. That poignant trickle of blood is the best.

Gaster isn't speaking in any of the panels, and there's no question mark, so it's hard to tell if Asgore is repeating what Gaster is saying in the last panels, or if Asgore is referring to the brothers as his own children.
