I don't think Papyrus was ever present while Gaster was sleeping as he seemed to sleep somewhere else or always left them in their cell and if he did end up asleep in the lab, Papyrus and Sans were in cell and if Paps did was somehow by him while he was sleeping Holy Crap would that be creepy or at least extremely curious.

Not sure if this is canon or just a joke comic, but we do see him sleeping near Papyrus once.
Of course, this was before he started hurting them, when they weren't as motivated to leave and had no reason to retaliate. And I doubt that nap was deliberate; he probably just refused to sleep until his body finally overrode his will in the middle of his work.

Oh no, that sounds terrifying! XD If that happened to me it would be even worse since I'm afraid of the dark and all the crazy weird things I see in it. The closest thing like that is my bro sleepwalking and sleep talking which I find creepy as HECK sometimes and other times absolutely hilarious.

Once i heard my sister going like this (she was sleepin): "No...no... I don't want to... I don't want to take a shower..." Or another time, she yelled "SHUT UP!" and then she woke up.

Pff XD I remember one time my brother was muttering something about hamburgers in his sleep and another time he just screamed REEEEALLY shrill and loud out of nowhere right as I was about to fall asleep but he didn't wake up.
There was another time when he was sick was lying in bed to take a nap and then got up and started walking towards the stairs in our room and I asked him if he was alright and if I needed to get our mom and he said "yes" along with a few other things and I ran downstairs to go get our mom. When we came back up my bro was standing at the top of the stairs and said he had just woken up there and didn't remember talking to me at all. It was soooo creepy and the conversation we had before I went downstairs wasn't even nonsensical or just one word which made it even creepier.

It was terrifying. I suffer from very severe nightmares, sometimes bad enough that i forget who i am, so waking up to a smiling face and big, wide toddler eyes was so startling i actually jumped on to my husband and cursed before i realized it was my kiddo. It was funny after i recovered, but at the time it was so terrifying i almost kicked him out of reflex. Thankfully i didn't.

Yikes. I can't say that I can sympathize considering I hardly ever get nightmares, just very very strange "dreams," but that definitely sounds terrifying. I jump even when I see my dog's eyes reflecting light in the middle of the night!
