Gaster didn't include this in the story he told Papyrus , but to be fair, I doubt he could tell anyone this.
Asgore isn't lying to his journal - as far as he knows, there really weren't any survivors. At least, none that he can remember now.

It seems kind of unfair that the skeletons, goblins, imps, and probably orcs were all killed to the last monster, but some of the slime-type monsters like Moldsmal survived.

Sans and Papyrus behaviour remember me when I changed schools and for the first time, after 9 years, no one bullied me.
I was so used to being alone, everyone making rude and mean comments, being assured that my apparence was extremamly ugly, that no one ever liked me, and every time that someone talked to me it was for pity, that I almost cried at the smallest hint of respect and affection.
Really, the smallest act of love can do a lot for a broken soul...
