One way of putting it I suppose.
This one isn't directly connected to anything, but it'd fall at least after the whole eye business , and becomes rather poignant after Sans learns to heal . As always you can get a better sense of where it is chronologically by looking at it in the index .
This is probably the most civil these two have been to each other so far. The next couple may be more Sans-focused since he hasn't had much to do in this whole shebang just yet, haha.
I totally would have called this ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ if dev allowed it.

I think it was mentioned at some point that it was related to his manifestation of magic. The FIGHT vs. MERCY idea is interesting, but he had a lost soul head before he made that choice...all the way back to when these baby bones were in their suspension tubes.
There's a comic out there with a normal-headed Gaster beginning the process to create Sans and Papyrus, but it's not technically in Handplates canon because Gaster has a normal head (according to Zarla's notes).

he had to choose between fight and mercy, so he chose fight. because he was 'lost' in his experiments he gained the lost soul head. i thiiink that was what had happened

Actually, Papyrus is 2-P because (2) he was made after Sans, who is 1-S, and because (P) P stands for Papyrus. (Unknown to Gaster. This is just speculation anyway but Zarla probably got P from Papyrus and S from Sans. That's not it.. he looks like a lost soul because no one remembers him. He can feel, but he forces himself not to since he feels it would get in the way of his goals.
