One way of putting it I suppose.
This one isn't directly connected to anything, but it'd fall at least after the whole eye business , and becomes rather poignant after Sans learns to heal . As always you can get a better sense of where it is chronologically by looking at it in the index .
This is probably the most civil these two have been to each other so far. The next couple may be more Sans-focused since he hasn't had much to do in this whole shebang just yet, haha.
I totally would have called this ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ if dev allowed it.

Also, normally if you break something, the smaller piece is stronger than the larger piece.

I would say that sans is far more intelligent. In the boss fight he breaks the rules in a sense. (no invincibility frames for you, damages over time. etc) Only someone who knows how to break the rules, can indeed break them.

Sans is a scientist, or at least had scientific training. He mentions using devices to measure the anomaly's properties in the battle. So he's spent enough time learning the rules that he knows where they break.
Which is why he can find shortcuts. Why he can dodge your attack (he understands human combat). And, why he can figure out what you've done over the game and if, when and how you died despite having no memory of the resets.
Also, he was trying to kill you dead. Pap was not. That tends to increase combat strength, and like the quote goes "rage is one hell of an ansthetic".

It's kinda cool seeing Gaster still sorta explaining to them when they ask like before. As much as he doesn't want to admit it, I don't think he's detached himself from the situation as much as he might've liked to.
