Hey, remember way back when when I said something was afoot in the Core ?

jazaaboo designed the monster that falls, it's called a Pterofractl! |D It loves math and "inventing" and "solving" math problems, but actually knows nothing about even basic math and generally has no idea what it's doing most of the time. It’s a poor flier because it always gets too caught up in 'calculating' flight vectors and angles and parabolas and such, thus why it didn’t fly itself to safety.

I was originally going to use the mole in the hardhat from the Mettaton Hotel, but when I went and checked it was completely wrong for what I had in mind, so instead I used a really obscure cameo from an old Sierra game I’m willing to bet nobody has played, haha. If any of you recognize him I'll be very surprised.

Asgore is wearing one of his old beta outfits I saw in the art book for a change of pace. I'd get on Gaster's case for how stupid and pointlessly dangerous the Core's design is, but honestly it's not even as stupid and dangerous as the Lambda Core from Half-Life, and those scientists didn't even have magic as an excuse.

Ooh, ok I loved this piece. Firstly, I loved the little mouse guy. He was awesome! Also, the whole idea of this is just really interesting and I loved how you you were able to imply just what the core was doing. Furthermore, the fact that both Gaster and Pterofractl already have the fuzzy heads even before they fell in is really awesome. It reinforces how the core manipulates time. And finally, Pterofratl is awesome - it makes the maths nerd in me really happy .

The more I read it, the more I feel like when Gaster is saying "I'm not concerned about baseless hypotheticals," he's just finding a polite way of saying "I'm not concerned about you clumsy simpletons who can't stand on platforms properly."

I'm wondering about a few things... Does /everyone/ know about Gaster's 'sign language'? Because I thought people (monsters) didn't understand when he spoke, but that random mouse seems to be able to. What kind of magic is that, that can do THAT to any/all monsters? And do they all get ripped into pieces scattered across spacetime?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aniko15 In reply to slp0001 [2017-02-16 23:59:19 +0000 UTC]

Only he can speak in Wing Dings, but as you can see in most panels he's using his blue magic hand (thingies) to speak using sign language. I'm pretty sure every monster in the underground can use sign language, so they could understand monsters with more rare, complicated fonts. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you want to know for sure you need to ask zarla .

SageOfTheStars In reply to ??? [2017-01-08 04:14:48 +0000 UTC]

So, I've been wondering--are the Gaster Followers possibly monsters that previously existed but fell into the Core? I'm especially wondering this now after you mentioned in your newest Tumblr ask post that "Some monsters get completely erased, others tend to linger on…"

Also, you probably know that if you don't turn on the fans and clear away the fog in the True Lab, the game describes a figure in the shape of a man lurking in the fog. Do you think it could be some kind of apparition of Gaster haunting the lab he used to work in (creepy), or is it just the  amalgamate that tucks you into bed?

Sofffie In reply to SageOfTheStars [2017-01-12 13:25:14 +0000 UTC]

Is it better to live on as a Follower or to never have existed and nobody even remembers you?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SageOfTheStars In reply to Sofffie [2017-01-12 23:22:53 +0000 UTC]

I guess it depends on what exactly you can still do as a Follower, and what it feels like to be one. Do Followers have physical substance and can interact with the environment just like everyone else? They can communicate with Frisk, after all....

Sofffie In reply to SageOfTheStars [2017-01-13 20:25:07 +0000 UTC]

Goner kid seemed quite sad... so they are aware that they don't really exist anymore and the world they used to live in just went on without them... and nobody ever missed them... that IS sad.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Sofffie In reply to SageOfTheStars [2017-01-12 13:23:00 +0000 UTC]

If they really fell into the core ... that would be creepy. But a good explanation. Poor gonner kid.
I think that it is Gaster, who you kind of meet in the true lap. None of the Amalgamates have the shape of a man and it gives Gaster more of the creepy, mysterious and sad.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SageOfTheStars In reply to Sofffie [2017-01-13 00:02:13 +0000 UTC]

What's strange is that some of the gray monsters look a lot like normal, existing monsters, except with slight variations, like how monster kid has a striped shirt, but goner kid's appears to be checkered. Some think they are versions of those characters from alternate timelines. I suppose that would disprove my theory, unless the gray monsters were all ancestors of currently existing ones or something. Either way, it's all very strange.

Well, like I said, there is that man-shaped "watching man" amalgamate that tucks the player into bed in the lab. I suppose it's more likely to just be that  than Gaster, but I do like the idea of it being Gaster lurking around in some form. It would make it sad and maybe even creepier than it already is.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sofffie In reply to SageOfTheStars [2017-01-13 20:35:24 +0000 UTC]

I was thinking about it the whole day and I came to the conclusion, that I like the "they fell in the core"-theory more than the "they are from different timelines". They don't really have a reason to come to this timeline then. And seeing a world that is moving on without you is more sad, if it was your world, isn't it? Ok, that they are all variations is a point. But imagine, that Monster kid had once a sibling who fell into the core and now no one remembers... *shudder* The Gaster followers know Gaster and what happens to him, so they fell after Gaster. Goner kid doesn't speak about it, so maybe it fell before Gaster. Then why was it at the core? Did it maybe know Gaster? Maybe it admired Gaster like Monster kid does with Undyne and Papyrus.
A whole story forms in my mind.
I like the idea of Gaster lurking around in the lab too.

So if you fall into the core... Your just gone. You don't exist, you never existed, and never will exist again. I'm guessing the weird thing with the head has to do with being wiped from existence, a way for us to know who no longer exists. But what kind of magic does the core contain that falling in wipes you from existence?
