Description
The Ignedoun Weapons are crafted by the Mendalisse , a species of merfolk who live in the kingdom of Jacarith. They are the fifth of the Maeji’Nse, the first species created by the ocean goddess Quara to give life back to the planet. As with all of her children they utilized natural materials around their settlements to produce their wares. The Mendalisse make their home in one of the deepest parts of the ocean. In stark contrast, the vibrant reefs of shell and coral are replaced with deep trenches, volcanic and geothermal geysers and dark forests of kelp and other foliage.

The base of their weapons gave them their namesake; often referred to as Ignedoun Coral, that term isn’t exactly accurate. They are pieces of coral remains that have been crystallized from magma flows from the volcanic Ignedoun Trench. Once sufficiently cooled, the crystallized “ore” is quarried and taken to natural hot springs to be forged. Similar to their brothers, the Naiathan , their wares stand out in comparison from their aquatic brethren. The Mendalisse take great pride in their work and particularly in the unique materials used and the aesthetic created by them.

The finishing piece are Fayteaun Pearls, another type of crystallized ore that has been exposed to natural thermal vents in the ocean floor. Over time the steam eats away at the rock shell until it has been completely eroded leaving behind a pale blue pearl. These pearls were chosen because of their natural resistance to high temperatures, such as those during the forging process. In addition to that, the soft color was deemed favorable and provided a balance for the deeper colors of the Ignedoun Corals.
