I believe it is canon that these two are friends. In my Alternate Universe, they live in different parts of the world - Australia and China respectively. I'm not quite sure how they became friends - whether it was a penpals thing when they were younger or just discovering common interest and bonding over the Internet. Yaya is very popular nowadays and has a huge following, so she really treasures Cocoa's friendship as someone she can be real with. Likewise, there's not a lot of critters Cocoa's age who are as intelligent as she is. Due to her big sister Tawna dating Red (Crash) the leader of the rebel Alliance, she's been involved in some serious grown-up stuff. The Allies trust her to keep track of supplies and help plan missions with her trusty laptop. But every once in a while it's nice to have a gal pal to talk life over with. They try to visit each other when they can, but in the meantime, there's always online! Just gotta be careful of those time zones.
