"But ssssstill…" Joe muttered. "That hardly ssseems fair." He slunk down the dock, retrieving his sword before anyone could step on it. Pinstripe might not want to keep his weapon but Joe certainly did. To his relief, Pinstripe had stopped antagonizing the roo and followed him. To either side of them, tourists swarmed eagerly to the other side of the gangplank.

"No, he's right." The short blond haired bandicoot appeared through the press of people, perched on a box. She gritted her teeth and turned to Pinstripe, surprising him. "Thank you, Pinstripe." She held out a paw, which Pinstripe gingerly took, a shocked look on his face.

"And you, you're a friend of his?" She turned to Joe.

Joe gave a pleased nod. "Komodo Joe, at your sssservice." He sheathed his sword in one smooth motion and elegantly gave her paw a shake.

"We're grateful for the help."

"What!" Ripper protested, still frozen some feet down the dock. "But Coco! They…. He…" He sputtered. "Red!" He thumped his tail angrily.

"Don't look at me, buddy, I'm surprised as you are." Red Bandicoot shrugged.

Pinstripe cackled gleefully. "C'mon Joe, let's blow this popsicle stand. Strike that, it looks like they beat us to it." Pinstripe ambled down the dock, kicking some of the crate debris away.

Joe followed, noting that the passengers were making way before them.

Coco's voice cut through the crowd. "Just a moment."

Pinstripe rolled his eyes. “Oh brudder. What now?” He muttered, coming to a halt and looking back.

"Since you've taken to being so helpful lately," Coco squinted up at him, "I might ask you for a favor later."

“Oh?” Pinstripe quirked his tail. He gave himself a little shrug. “Eh, sure toots, why not? It might help to have youse owing me down the line.” He grinned at Coco’s disturbed face. C’mon Joe!” He waved the komodo forward. They almost got away with it too, if it weren’t for Briar.

Author's note: It certainly tickles Pinstripe's funny bone to befuddle the hero squad. Red (aka Crash) and Ripper are all like "This isn't in the script! Since when do we let the bad guys walk away?" It's certainly a first for him as every other encounter has either been a fight or some kind of detainment, or he sneaked past them without them seeing him. I mean, he's not holding his breath waiting for it to happen again, but he'll certainly enjoy the moment.

Joe bowing was unexpectedly tricky to draw. I had to research some human poses, then translate that into how his snout would bend. Any guesses what the favor Coco will ask for will be?
