... Pinstripe came to, sitting up with a shock as a cold water was doused over him. The grizzled roo stood beside him swinging a bucket lazily, his profile blocking the sun. He must’ve walked over from the edge of the field where he’d been conversing with the wombat. A quick glance back showed the cop car was gone.
“Shit!” Pinstripe swore. Swivelling, he could see the tractor had moved several feet further down the row, the young roos still busily swinging.
“You got heat stroke.” The old ‘roo intoned blandly.
