Description
So uh... well, this idea is weird, but - I thought it would be funny if, like, every spring this family of birds comes back and nests her in hair. And she's given up on doing anything about it.WTF BACKGROUND?!? Just... be amazed that it's there. I still really can't mouse very much (and no, I have no tablet and probably never will) so detail is out, but I can do a few geometric shapes if I have to.
This is for the Spring Contest at #darkwingsdomain . It was the only thing I could think of that didn't involve anyone wearing bunny ears.

Wait... did I actually never comment on this?? Also seem to have not faved it... oh well, both remedied now!
I love it, I got such a huge kick out of her expression and the situation, it's funny as heck. I also like the background a lot - BG's are HARD. Your background does not look bad at all. It is not as though it ruins the atmosphere at all - what I'm trying to say here is that it's got nice muted tones which don't detract from the main point. It's also not BAD. Really. More effort than I usually care to put into backgrounds.
Also, I LOOOVE those skull-candle holders! So FTW!

Thank you for the fave! I was really worried this idea was too bizarre for other people to find funny but apparently it's gone over pretty well... so I guess I can relax now. Oh, the background is so cheap and lazy but you're right, it doesn't overpower the rest of the picture with badness or anything, so there is that.
Backgrounds and I don't get along just in general.

Thank you! They were a last-minute inspiration that I was kind of pleased with. ;D The wallpaper is my favourite touch though. Isn't it cool how I managed to give it that realistic look of wallpaper that was painted by a lazy painter who gave up after three strokes? I see that all the time in haunted houses. ^_~

Aww, poor Morgana. Pretty blue birds aren't really working with her overall theme, eh?
Her bill is too cute, the resigned 'why me' look came out great. And, um, I do think the background looks good. Honestly.
(Now where's this scout's honor emoticon...)

Thanks! Poor Morgana indeed. I assume this ruined her plans for the evening - or um... afternoon?
The background is a step forward because up until I did this, pictures by me did not HAVE backgrounds. I am sticking to that to keep myself from feeling like a total failtastic sucker.
Actually, seriously when I am willing to put more time and effort into the backgrounds, they'll improve somewhat. Right now I'm just at a place where I want them to be FINISHED so I'm like "it vaguely resembles something! DONE!" and out it goes. ;D

You know, I really admire your discipline there. I don't think I'd have the patience to even attempt a background.
But background or no background, don't you dare think you're a sucker. I'm serious

Ooh, I like eeeeeet! What program are you using to ink/color in? I may be able to give you some PROTIPS (read: HOW TO DO IT RONG, LIEK I DO), since I still use a mouse for a good portion of my art, despite having a tablet.
As it is, you're doing pretty well with just a mouse!

I use Photoshop for the colouring, but I inked it by hand. No way can I do digital inking; I found a tutorial but couldnt' follow it very far before I decided I was either using an old version of the software (which I am) or else just clueless (which I also am, lol). I'll figure it out eventually, but I am kinda pleased that my inking has gotten less sucky in the past few months.... that's a big deal to me, I was totally afraid to finish pics because I'd ruin them. (My line quality was far worse than this; this is semi-decent.)
Anyway, so, no digital inking but PS colouring; I basically just set the linework layer to multiply then lasso the area underneath the linework, do a fill in a new layer, then when it's all done I use dodge/burn because I can be sloppier highlighting and shading with that tool than I can with actual colours.

If you like using Dodge/Burn and color under the line art anyway, you may want to check out this tutorial by : [link]
's style is different than mine, but I've taken a couple of pointers from this tutorial for separating my line art layers. I haven't used Dodge/Burn for highlighting and shading in ages.
I use the Point-to-Point tool to set Paths for my inks, and then just stroke the line with brush pressure simulated. I think at least a few of the older versions of PS can do that. Here's an old (old) tutorial I've done that'll give an idea how Paths can be used for digital inking: Pan Tutorial . (I do both my inking and coloring somewhat differently than this today...I really need to make an updated tutorial at some point. The premise is the same, but I've made several tweaks in how I treat line and color in my work since I did this tutorial.)

Yay, thanks! I realized as I was working on it that I've done kind of a lot of "slouching at a table while pissed off" pics but hopefully this is among the better ones. Now I can move onto a different pose ;D
