Description
TA-DAH! This tutorial is designed to assist you in the REMIX CONTEST - click here to see what it's all about.---
Here's the final piece:
Before I drew the first Franchise Remix, I had never really drawn a crossover - and had seen very little of it online. But I had the idea for an art series where the audience decides on the fusion - so I just had a go. Since then, I've had several people commenting on my "crossover skills" and saying they'd be interested in a tutorial (which was totally surprising for me). So, I've created a walkthrough of everything I've learned while making the last 40 remixes.
Hope it's a fun read! If you find it useful, I'd love to see how you apply it.

You are very welcome. Cause I found myself wondering, when I saw some of your first ones even, how you thought of it or what your method was. So it was really cool to see how it all comes together.

It was certainly improvised to start with - haha But after the extensive research for Round 2, I quickly realized what would be involved. Each one comes with it's own quirks - but yeah, I think I found a fairly universal system.

Thank you for making this.
Lots' of interesting tips for character-concepts in general.
I already though you are a great illustrator but you're an even better designer

This is madness
What are you hanging around here for
This is clearly godlike and I have come to the conclusion that you must be the secret key to a successful crossover, as well as the long-lost hero that we all need

My guise is foiled! I tried to resist releasing my excellence - but it got the better of my god-like, hero self.
But in all seriousness - that's so flattering to hear. Thank you. It's funny - having only started drawing crossovers with this series, I feel a bit unqualified to educate others. But reading a thing like this gives me the confidence to chart ahead with confidence! Thanks again!
(also this is sparta)

Ha! Once again, The Great Papyrus Powerpuff Girls Deviant Detective saves the day!
Confidence is key~
Also, it would be really helpful if you used your powers to educate the common populace on anatomy. And possibly hair. And hands. And facial expressions. And everything you ever learned in your decades spent fighting evil with your mad art skills.

Fusion is just a cheap tactic to make weak franchises stronger.

So, theme and subject... how do you choose for which franchise in the competition? (If you dont understand, Im asking whats the difference between the subject and theme of a franchise)
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
ZedEdge In reply to CR-tist [2017-01-23 21:07:33 +0000 UTC]
Right - I can understand the confusion. As an example, lets say we're mixing Super Mario and Star Wars.
If Mario is the Subject and Star Wars is the Theme - we would draw Mario in a Jedi's robes wielding a lightsaber.
But if Star Wars is the Subject and Mario is the Theme - we would draw Luke Skywalker with white gloves, colorful overalls and a cap with an "L" on it.
Think of "Subject" as the Character. And "Theme" as the World.
When it comes to choosing franchises for the contest, you pick any 2 of the 6 in the journal post.
Hope that makes sense.
