Description
Firstly, let's just appreciate the sweet names of this duo ... aw yeah ... that's the good stuff. So, something commonly practiced in the artistic 'verse is the construction of clear silhouettes. Simplifying to the simplicity of simple black and white, the figure or focus of the scene will either be black on a white background or white on a black background - and these can easily be achieved with strong rim-lighting. It's important to make each character in the scene conform to only a black or white silhouette for the piece. However, if the two characters already have inverted silhouettes due to their costume color ... well, you're going to be putting a lot of thought into the composition.
I originally tried to solve this by putting her in front of the night sky, and him on a well illuminated base, but they became really disconnected in the composition. Hrm - more thinking. But wait, what's that? The darker attired character produces light, while the lighter dressed one emanates darkness? Gadzooks, that's it!
Here I was trying to use my brain and carrying on with contrasting silhouettes, when the commissioner had solved it already with their powers. This piece really was a fun one, because I didn't really know how it was going to look until I finished and by then it worked quite well I'd say.
