He wasn't really listening- his mind was on loop, analysing every last inch of the birdlike companion as it looked back at him. It was perfect in every way- he loved it.
"....failed therapy animal program, all the way from antova-"
Huh? Therapy Wibbles? Maybe he better pay attention-
"Those cityfolk are crazy sometimes, I know- but it means this little friend is trained to help you if you need it! Honey, remember- if you're ever feeling sad, you can come to me- or even Tom, I know you two are thick as thieves-"
"Oh- y-yeah, thank you, Alma-mum, I will." Bough wrapped his long tail around his legs. "Can I.... hold them? The wibble?"
"Of course you can! Silly me, getting caught in a rave- also, you might want to name it something other than 'the wibble'." The hatchery mum handed him the pet, who sat comfortably in his arms, a nice, blanket-like weight. It looked up at him and wiggled its little feet.
"Hi there...... Wafer? wafer's a nice name, right?"
Wafer poked out their tongue in approval. For the first time in what felt like forever, Bough smiled, then let out a genuine laugh.
"Isn't Cheeto gonna be jealous-"
