That took a lot of work. o.o

Anyhoo, I dont really know why I made this. Just peeved that so many characters look the same I guess? And I know Emma isn't exactly all that different, BUT SHE'S REALISTIC AND SHE HAS GENES TO PROVE IT! lD Plus I wondered why someone didn't have all the dog types and colors together in one easy to access place so... tada?

Hope it helps.

you are really good but just a suggestion you should bend her legs wen shes laying down cause dogs dont have their legs strait up like that when their on their back but still good work

If only I could draw period.. :\ Any suggestions on that? I'm using a bamboo tablet && I stink..so then I go to tracing && get busted by the art police So yeah I have no idea what to dooo.

I think the biggest thing is understanding how animals move. It's hard to grasp why something looks off in a picture if you don't know how the anatomy works, and real life is conveniently located all around us to show us just that. I have five dogs, and watching them move and play and interact has helped my art more than anything else C: If I can't figure out how the front leg should be bending, well I have a nice, real model sleeping on my bed that just happens to have a leg that can demonstrate that for me. I've also had the extreme pleasure of getting to work with a gorgeous bunch of wolf puppies, who lived on a reserve with tigers and a lion and menagerie of other big cats, and that's when I realized... those guys are HUGE D: It was only after seeing them up close and personal that I realized their true weight, and the amazing density of their muscles. So whenever I draw big cats, I imagine gravity is pulling pretty hard on them, and the picture seems to come out more life like. If you can't get to the real thing, hello youtube! Also, always learn new creatures in moving poses. If you practice with stationary poses, then you'll have trouble getting a flowing movement later on, and it's easier to make mistakes.
And if you feel more comfortable tracing, ease yourself into solitary art. Start by marking specific places on the body from photos (this is where the head goes, this is where a joint is) and draw connect-the-dots. It will develop your style without fretting too much over proportions. Draw the shapes and details yourself, though, because that's the only way you can learn.
But most importantly, never stop. After a long leave from drawing (coughschoolcough) I find it's harder for me to get the feel for it back, like my hand is too rigid for some of the strokes. It takes me a little while to feel natural again. But if you keep drawing, every availability, you'll be awed at how fast you can improve C;

Thanks so much for that. It really helped. I have 3 dogs, 1 german shepherd (layla), 1 aussie (iris) & one mini schnauzer puppy, justin. Umm, lol one of my best friend's sisters also lives very close to a reserve with lions & wolves..what's your first name?I mean, you're probably not her. D: But she loves drawing wooolves

Two german shepherds, a rottie, a mutt, and a pit bull ;D Quite a full family.
And I doubt I'm her, as I don't have a sister. Butttt I'm Leah, and you?

ZekeStar In reply to Clouudie [2011-07-29 03:22:32 +0000 UTC]

There's no skill in art, its just said by good artists who want to make themselves feel special All it is is practice, repetition, and will. Trust me, as long as you want it, you'll get there.

ZekeStar In reply to WinterIsis [2009-08-01 20:21:56 +0000 UTC]

I think lab genetics are a good place to start learning c: Then you can start working your way up to more complicated breeds like aussies or huskies. Now those are fun lD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WinterIsis In reply to ZekeStar [2009-08-01 20:32:06 +0000 UTC]

♥ Yesh... But like I said, I know little to nothing about genetics.... D:

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ZekeStar In reply to WinterIsis [2009-08-01 20:38:00 +0000 UTC]

Thats why labs are good, because they're pretty simple 8D They only come in three colors, and their genes are all pretty strait forward.

Wow, Zekey! I didn't know you put that much thought into how you drew each kind of dog... though I probably should have expected it. This is amazing~<3

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ZekeStar In reply to Rhinocio [2009-07-31 13:33:38 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! .3. But it's mostly only for creating characters, every pictures isn't that thought out lD I usually just use a ref for those, and color the dog like the reference picture.
