Description Another OLD OLD OLD painting. It's so old that I can't remember if it's in oils or acrylics, but I think it's oils. I cropped it because it is so old and crappy that I didn't want to show the whole thing. It's very embarrassing, and I do have some pride!

This is an example of a face I did with no reference (no photo or model to look at). I can and have done better than this, but there was something about this face that I liked just enough to show here. But it's still really crappy!

I Photoshopped a few small details that were bothering me, or things that I don't think turned out well in the scan.

I went through a lot of old artwork today, and while some of it was not too awful, a lot of it was depressingly, soberingly BAD. I used to think I wasn't that awful when I was a student studying art, but boy was I wrong. Some of my artwork STUNK. But then other things looked okay. But it was a good lesson for me, because it reminds me that memories can be faulty things. I had conveniently forgotten about all the really awful drawings and paintings I created! LOL.

Interesting...why do you think this is crappy? It's not photo-realistic, but I like the skin tones. The only thing I potentially see wrong is that something about the mouth and chin look wonky...

I did the same on my last trip home, and boy, a lot of stuff was crap. I've got crap in my gallery but hadn't deleted them cos it's a reminder where I started from. I can't draw as well as this even with a reference, I can't see anything wrong with it.

I'll be the third person to say that, it doesn't like crappy at all...actually, it looks quite good, especially since you created this without a reference.

This doesn't look that bad @ all to me, and it shows good brush work even for back then. It looks like acrylics to me, which would make it even more impressive b/c I could never get this level of technical polish w/ them (tho, I don't paint w/ them too often, and such and such as we discussed before).

A bit curious just how long ago this was done, and what red and yellow were used; together it looks like they did a really gr8 job.

Thanks! You know, it might be acrylics. I simply don't know for sure, but if you think it looks more like acrylics, it's quite possible that it is!

I can't recall how long ago it was done, but definitely before the year 2000. As for the colors used, I'm almost certain the brand used was Liquitex, and my standard palette at that time would have included Cad Red Medium (probably the hue) and probably Quinacridone Magenta, plus Yellow Oxide, and I'm not sure what other yellow. Maybe Cad. Yellow Medium.
