I love this. I grew up in Alaska around where there were a lot of Japanese people. They would come to our school dressed in traditional dress and teach us origami. Then I fell in love with someone that was from Japan and I fell in love with the Memoirs of Geisha. That's what this reminds me of especially when you where talking about submerging her in the water. Enough about that, it is an amazing GORGEOUS picture, even if you did have to freeze to get it.

"Defeat"? No way! This photo is amazing. Maybe because the model was really miserable and not just acting, and the viewer can feel it. One of your best shots, IMO!

I'm sorry to be so cliche....but this is screaming Memoirs of a Geisha to me! The model vaguely reminds me of Hatsumomo from the movie. What really does it though is the combination of the model and the dark brewing waters, just like in the beginning of MOAG when the scene shows the small shack house by the edge of a none-too calm sea.

well, even if you do not think a great deal of this one, it is my fave so far. it's intensity, with her pensive face (probably made more evocative by her being numb with the cold by now), makes it such a powerful shot. and i love how the saturation of everything is near greyscale, but for the soft hints of colour to bring it to life.
