Description HOLY BUCKETS! Double deviation day? Zenny oh you're insane! Actually here's a little something since I'm gonna be gone this week with my parents on vacation *woot woot*

So this is a little idea I've been really wanting to do for a really long time. Well I love bottle necklaces. I love tiny things, especially when they're on display in tiny bottles that way I can't lose them . I've only done glitter, beads or polymer clay things inside the bottles until I thought "what would happen if you stuck a plant in one of these?" Well turns out that's already been done (hasn't everything....)

I found a great tutorial on how to make the dirt with sand and activated carbon (?) I guess the carbon if there to keep the dirt from getting moldy? I dunno, I'm not a plant expert.

Usually people put moss in the bottles but I put Irish Moss in. WHICH despite having the word 'moss' in the title is technically not a moss since it can produce tiny white flowers in the summer! (I would like one with moss though cause there are a lot of pretty types!)

Either way, I love it. He's been in there for a few days, the cork does come off, fear not: he shall not suffocate! I'm more worried about my crappy loop holding the bottle to the chain. I'm not sure it'll hold but I can always make another right?

Wow. Did any of you read all of this? Goodness. Here's an internet cookie!

Hello there! Absolutely adorable terrarium! I hope you won't mind me asking about this despite this deviation being over a year old.

I'm really interested in doing a project like this, but I'm a bit inexperienced with plants and such, so- I hope you're okay with a bombardment of questionssss.

1) Is the moss still alive? I saw another bottled moss terrarium that's been alive for several years, but it looks to be a different species. I think I like the look of Irish moss though- like you said above that it would produce flowers during summer. Has it?  : O

2) How large is the bottle you've kept/are keeping it in? I have a 1 inch tall one that's very tiny (perfect for a necklace, but I'm not sure if the moss needs more growing space) and a 1.4 inch tall that might be impractical for a necklace.

3) Was there actually a specific way you were supposed to mix the sand, dirt, and carbon? Is the tutorial still available? I don't want to cause some sort of nuclear reaction P;

4) How often have you watered it? I've seen some interesting methods like exhaling into the bottles which releases carbon dioxides for the moss & also gives moisture. But again, different species.

Thank you so so so much for taking your time to read this and maybe help me. -gives binary cookie-

Ah yeah sure thing!

1. The moss is not alive anymore due to myself losing the cork when it was dropped behind a bookshelf. I have it again and I'm using the bottle for a marimo ball now. Very good that you knew it was Irish (whether or not that was in the description I forget.) It wasn't the best species for this type of project though.

2. 1 inch or whereabouts. It's not the tiniest bottle ever but also not too large. You should be fine.

3. Moss is pretty hardy, I just threw some stuff together but I didn't use any sand. As long as the dirt is good and rich you should be fine.

4. I remember breathing into the jar once and a while while I was bored during my classes. I didn't water too often since the moisture kept pretty well; it was like a very tiny greenhouse and stuff.

I'm glad to help. I've been meaning to refit my own bottle with more moss. c:

Generally you can either get these small bottles at Joann's fabric store or online. They're very fun to use while making jewelry~ c:

I never really thought of what type of cookie it'd be .... what do internet cookies taste like?

He's doing quite well! This is the fifth day he's been in there and no signs of willing or dying anywhere. Just hope he doesn't grow too quickly.
