This tutorial is not really meant to explain how hdri works, but more to understand how you can achieve some effects from an hdri image (or a non-hdri image too). What software have you used to experiment with HDRI? I'll add some more tutorials dedicated to hdri if you wish!

I use Photomatix (same as you, right?) and my images often appear way to unbalanced (too bright mostly). Iäve just expermiented a bit with three differently exposed images, but always bad results. I'd LOVE to have a HDRI tutorial!
