Why does everyone insist that SOAD sucks? Just because of Cop Suey? If all it takes for a band to suck is one song, then Slayer sucks for releasing Undisputed Attitude, Iron Maiden sucks for releasing No Prayer For The Dying, (With the exception of Mother Russia, that song kicks ass.) And Metallica.....Well that's just too easy.Β

Naw, I don't think they suck, they just have a pretty... interesting sound XD I'm personally not a fan of ALL their songs, though. And if anything, I think that Chop Suey's their best song

I would have to disagree with the opinion that Chop Suey is their best. Off the same album, Aerials I think is a better song, same with Toxicity, and ATWA. Otherwise, I think that Soldiers Side, and Holy Mountains The latter being my favorite, even though it's about the Armenian Genocide, are the two best songs SOAD produced. At least in my opinion.Β
And yeah I love SOAD's Sound, it's a mix of contemporary metal, and Middle Eastern sounds, it's like a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup of musical styles. Β
I didn't say you said they suck, It's just that when you mention SOAD in metal circles, you usually get a look like, what the fuck is wrong with you? Like you just brought Linkin Park, or Korn up in the same breath as Pantera, or Iron Maiden. I don't get the hate, they have a very unique sound, and have some very provocative, and thought provoking lyrics. I guess it's because they do push a political agenda not unlike Rage Against The Machine, but the difference is SOAD doesn't suck like Rage does. But hell almost every metal band pushes their political views, so even that baffles me.

Honestly, I don't know many songs from SOAD, or at least I don't remember many. But I do agree that their sound's pretty unique, and no matter the hate, I think that they produce quality music. Glad to hear someone else with a similar opinion!

The songs I listed are a great place to branch out. Toxicity was a big hit off the album of the same name, and ATWA (Air. Trees. Water. Air.) Is just a great slow paced song.
As for the other two, Holy Mountains is just an all around awesome song, and knowing that it's about the Armenian Genocide adds to the piece. After all Shavo Odajian (The band's bassist.) Β is Armenian, and the band wants the Turkish Government to admit that the genocide happened, even though the Turks refuse, because they say it was the Ottoman Government that was responsible. Which is like Germany denying the holocaust happened because the Nazi Government was responsible. Or the Japanese denying that they killed twenty four million Chinese, during the occupation of the Chinese coast because it was the Imperial Government calling the shots. And Soldier Side is just an awesome song, slow and powerful.
