Description Next up on the streamliner list... CB&Q's Aeolus!

This engine was originally a regular 4-6-4, but was streamlined, renumbered 4000, and renamed to Aeolus. After the 1930's, the engine was de-streamlined, but still retained it's number. In the 1960's, the engine remained on the scrap line in Galesburg, IL, until being moved to La Crosse, WI to be put on display.

I've actually seen ol' Aeolus in person, back when I was younger.

Wow, if someone hadn't told me beforehand, I would've thought this fine engine was made outta pure silver! Great job as always.

Haaaa! Nice! And we got the Aeolus in LaCrosse. If I ever restore her, there will be a point in time where I'll re-streamline it for a few years.

I wonder if the CBQ was inspired by the Commodore Vanderbilt.

Probably was. Aeolus was streamlined in 1939, 5 years after the launch of the Commodore Vanderbilt.

I like that. Whoever came up with the idea of a stainless steel streamlined engine deserves a lot of credit.
