Swiftstar looked in the direction of the end of camp. So much has changed in her Clan ever since she became leader. Her best friend had kits, she had gotten an apprentice…so much. She counted the members of her Clan. Twenty-eight, she counted. That was far more than the original six they started off with. The lively leader had eight lives left. She hadn't lost a life since five months before, battling rouges. They leaved her land alone.
Snowkit’s land, she thought. After all, we owe much to our fallen kit. She didn't deserve to die, and I regret that I could not save her. She walked to the center of camp. Shyfoot passed her. “Something is on your mind. What is it?” he meowed. She knew Shyfoot had an easy time of telling what is on her mind, so she daren’t resist, or else he’ll just push on.
“I regret Snowkit’s death. I wish I can make it up to you all.”
“Is that it?”
Swiftstar flicked her tail. “Yes.”
“Don’t think about it. Snowkit gave you a life for playfulness and joy.” Shyfoot sook his head. “Why bother telling you? You’ll just worry anyway.”
“Thank you, Shyfoot. I…I just need someone to confide in.” As she said that, Nightstep and Crystalpelt padded up. Leopardsnow padded out of the medicine den.
“Swiftstar, you can always confide in me,” her best friend told her.
“I suppose you won’t leave me alone. Okay, fine. I’ll tell you later, Crystalpelt, I promised Tigerpaw to go hunting.”
