The familiar squeak of the hinge as you pushed open Rivaille's door made you smile as you entered, watching as your husband looked up from the window he was standing at. He glanced at you for a moment without greeting before turning back to whatever has captured his interest down in the courtyard below.

A playful smile danced on your lips as you strode over to where your husband stood, hands folded behind his back.

"I brought you lunch." You declared, setting a small basket of groceries down on the surface of his desk. Rivaille did not look up. You paused for a moment, observing him.

His brow was furrowed in an expression of frustration or mild anger, you weren't sure. His mouth was a taut line, his eyes half lidded as he stared down at the courtyard.

"What are you looking at?" You asked, though you already knew. You wandered over to the window, placing a small peck on Rivaille's cheek before gazing down into the courtyard.

A young lady, with dark feathery hair just like her father's, stood talking to a young man about her age, perhaps a few years her senior. The boy had the same sea-green eyes as his father, but the jet black hair of his mother. Jeanne was leaning and rocking on her heels as she listened to him speak, a sparkle in her eyes. The boy was gesturing excitedly, and you could hear his voice all the way from where you stood.

"Ah, it's Eren's boy." You chuckled, grasping onto Rivaille's arm and leaning contently against his shoulder. Rivaille murmured something inaudible.

You watched as Jeanne laughed flirtatiously at something he had said, her eyes closing in a cute expression. You could see the boy pause for a moment, obviously struck with your daughter's expression.

Rivaille sighed irritably, running a hand through his jet black locks. "Since he joined the survey corps, that boy has been hanging out around Jeanne too much. I don't like it."

You chuckled, looking up at the captain. "Rivaille, he's harmless. He's Eren's boy."

"That's what I'm afraid of." Rivaille spoke, turning towards you. "The brat was passionate and impulsive. What's to say his son won't be the same way?"

You laughed cheerfully, a smile overcoming your features. "Rivaille, honestly. Allow your daughter some freedom. She knows how to make correct decisions, she takes after me, after all."

A small smile slipped at the corner of the Corporal's lips. "I also worry about that."

You pouted at him, sticking out your bottom lip. "Hey~" you whined, only to be cut off as as a pair of arms wrapped around your waist, eliciting a small squeak of surprise on your part. Rivaille's lips grazed your throat, making your breath hitch.

"I still don't like him." Rivaille declared casually. You were wordless with surprise, struggling with words.

Then, suddenly, Rivaille was gone from your side, back over towards the window. You struggled to contain the warmth rising to your face before following him to the window. You looked down just in time to see Jeanne stumble forward, and into the arms of the boy. There was a small pause as both figures silently gazed at each other before closing the distance between them. You registered Rivaille tense beside you briefly before you could hear his footsteps sound on the floorboards and the door close behind him.

A few moments after the two in the courtyard had separated, you could hear a yell from somewhere off to the side. You opened the window a crack to hear better.

"Oi, brat! Don't you have stable duty right now?"

The boy looked up from the girl in his arms, quickly stepping away from her and giving the captain a sloppy salute.

"N-no, sir!" he squeaked.

Rivaille strode across the courtyard stopping in front of the boy and taking the collar of his jacket in his hand. Jeanne watched from the side, an amused smirk on her lips.

"Well, you do now." Rivaille sneered, shoving the boy away from him and in the direction of the stables.

He stumbled a few steps before stopping and glancing over his shoulder.

Rivaille glared after him. The boy glanced at the corporal, then at Jeanne, his lips forming into a wry smile that said: "It was worth it."

You could hear Jeanne giggle at his smile, which earned her a sharp glance from her father. She shrugged innocently, her eyes sparkling with mischeif.

The boy gave a mock salute and a lopsided grin towards Rivaille before running off before Rivaille could issue any further penance. It seemed he already knew he was going to be on stable duty that day, for he picked up a bucket and a shovel by the entrance to the stable, whistling as he vanished from sight.

Well, that's what you got when you flirted with the Corporal's daughter.

Jeanne's eyes slid up towards the window you stood at, giving you a wave and a bright grin.

Rivaille looked up as well. You smiled and blew him a kiss. Instantly his hand shot out, as if to grasp the kiss, and he carefully brought his hand to his lips, kissing his fingers delicately and giving you a small smirk.

Jeanne noticed this exchange and made a disgusted face. You chuckled and mouthed three words to Rivaille from the window, which caused a soft smile to appear on his face.

"I love you."
