Description
TW: Misgendering,Lighting Dust, Wind Sprint, their families, Clear Sky, and Quibble Pants had all come to see Storm Spark's race, one that they had happily won.
"Hm. They certainly remind me of someone." Clear Sky teased. Lighting Dust playfully rolled her eyes with a chuckle. "Ha ha, Mom. Hilarious." They all made their way down to the happy foal.
"That's my kid! I'm so proud of you, baby!" Lighting gave Storm a nuzzle, which they happily returned. "You did awesome!" Charging Twister grinned.
"So, guys, where do we wanna go after this?" Thunder Lane questioned, looking around at the adults. "Well, Maybe Sugarcube Corner-"
The adults were distracted by talking about which restaurant to celebrate at, while Charging Twister and Storm Spark chatted about their win. "You did great!" "You did so much better at YOUR last race, though!"
"Quite a great show, young man."
Both foals looked up in confusion. An old stallion, looking rough and gruff, walked up to them. "Uh... Thank you." Storm Spark bit their lip awkwardly.
"You know, with the way you fly, you could be quite the wonderbolt, son." The older stallion smiled. Storm Spark bit their lip, not very comfortable with being referred like this. The spectator from earlier had clearly said their pronouns... Maybe the old colt hadn't seen them?
"Um-"
"KIDS." Both foals jumped to see their mother and aunt rushing over. Withing seconds, Lightning Dust was protectively in front of them, and Wind Sprint was right by her side. The stallion jumped in surprise, and took a step back.
It was silent between them as the three stared at each other for what seemed like hours. It was Lighting Dust who broke the silence.
"Hello, Wind Rider." Her voice was cold, and hushed. Wind Rider simply gave nod. "Hey, Dusty-" "You don't get to call me that." She cut him off before he could even finish her beloved nickname.
"What are you doing here?" Wind Sprint's eyes were still narrowed as she spoke to the colt that she once called 'father'. Wind Rider shook his head. "To watch my grandson compete-" "Your grandCHILD is doing great without you, thanks." Lighting cut him off AGAIN. Wind Rider looked annoyed this time. "I was just giving him some advice-" "THEY don't need your advice, Rider. You lost the right to see my kids a long time ago."
Wind Rider glared now. "I think my grandkids at least need to know who made their mama famous. Before she threw it away, anyways." He grumbled. "Well you're one to talk, aren't you? How are the Wonderbolts doing? That was all you ever cared about, so shouldn't you know?" Wind Sprint spat back at him. "DON'T you raise your tone at me, Wind Sprint. I am your father, I have ALWAYS been there for you two, and here you are, treating me like garbage!" Wind gestured to his two daughters, who glared at him darkly.
Lightning Dust trembled a little. "Always... been there for us?" She let out a hollow laugh. "Tell me, Dad, when the HELL have you ever been there for us? Most of my races. Wind Sprint's games. Our proms. Our graduations. Hell, you didn't even been to my WEDDING! And when you did try to show up at Wind Sprint's, you were so drunk off your ass that her new husband had to drag you out!"
Wind Rider froze for a second, but shook it off. "I- I was going through a rough patch, girls. You know I was kicked-" "Kicked out of the Wonderbolts! For good reason!" Wind Sprint shook her head. "I'm not that big a fan of Rainbow Dash, but that's one of the things in my life that I'd be PROUD of her for!" Lightning Dust shook her head. "You were NEVER there for us, Wind Rider, and as far as I can help it, you never will be." She turned to her foals. "Come on, babies. Let's go to gramma and grandpa-"
Wind Rider was becoming red in the face. "You can't do this to me! Those are MY grandsons-" Lighting Dust once again cut him off. "Grand CHILDREN." She gestured to Storm Spark. "They are non-binary." She defended her child, who had been huddled beside her, before they all turned and began walking back to the rest of the family. Wind Rider stared for a second, before rolling his eyes. "Great. The once vibrant, and strong Lighting Dust has now turned into a sensitive snowflake. Who knew."
Lighting Dust froze. Wind Sprint took this opportunity to lead the kids back, and her older sister slowly turned to face the old stallion. "...What the fuck did yo just call me?"
Wind Rider didn't back down. He was about to speak but Lighting Dust took the opportunity. "How dare you. HOW DARE YOU?!" Lighting Dust's feathers ruffled as she gave the stallion a poisonous stare. "I was kicked out of the Wonder Bolts, AND the Washouts. I had to help raise a baby sister that YOU were never there for. But you know what I got? I have a job as coaching beautiful children. I have a perfect husband, and children I adore. What exactly do YOU have, Wind Rider? NOTHING. You are a SHAM and a JOKE. You tried to mold me into your idea of the perfect daughter, but that mold crumbled a long time ago. You DISGUST me. And if you come near my babies ever again, I will make sure you regret it."
The female pegasus then turned around, leaving the bitter old man sputtering.
The group was silent as she joined. She sighed out, wiping away tears she had been holding for a long time. Thunderlane wrapped a comforting wing around her, and she nuzzled into him, letting out a sigh. Wind Sprint lightly rubbed her back with her hoof, and so did Clear Sky.
Finally, Storm Spark broke the silence. "Momma, I'm sorry your daddy was a jerk." Lighting Dust's lips gave a sad smile. "It's OK, baby. I'm sorry you had to go through that. Both of you." She pulled her foals close.
"...Can we go to Sugarcube Corner now?" Charging Twister questioned gently.
The adults shared a smile, and Lighting ruffled her kids' manes. "Sure we can, kiddo."

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh-
-Strider has been born during this time, he's just back at home with Daddy Rumble.
-Lightning Dust is kind of on the fence on Quibble and Clear Sky, but as long as he's a nice guy to both her mother and sister, AND her babies, she's fine.
