Because a smart zombie always attacks from behind.But yeah, this took a long, long time to finish, mostly on account of the fact that I'm pretty lazy and was focusing on finishing our group animation film project at Sheridan. So a lot of work that i've started has kind of just sat around, and only now am i finding the time to get back to it. I definitely earned myself a lot of digital art experience with this, it was certainly a challenge.
Also, Dead Space is awesome.

hehehe, it was surprisingly, disturbingly easy to paint the grotesque facial features of the necromorph, especially compared to the hair-pulling ridiculousness of painting isaac's helmet.

This could easily be mistaken for official artwork. I like how you focused on the "fear of the unknown" aspect of Dead Space, rather than put a lot of gore in this piece. Fantastic job!

thanks! Oh, to do official artwork for a game would be glorious. And yeah, I always found the real thrill in Dead Space is anticipating the next attack, rather than the combat itself. It keeps you on your toes.

I agree, finding a recording of a person slowly resorting to cannibalism or hearing a thud in the vent above you is always more scary than seeing the necromorph itself. Dead Space is terrifyingly demented!
