Nice work! It looks great. And thank you for the credit, some people don't bother with that part.
I actually have an instagram myself, if you want to tag the credit to there. www.instagram.com/zerahoc/

Interesting. Looks like something from Borderlands

I think I played Borderlands around that time, so I probably took inspiration from it. It's fun to see games where guns have interesting colours and designs instead of being grey boxes.

Thatβs what makes Borderlands so awesome. Guns are the big thing, and you can never have too many.
God, I canβt wait for Borderlands 3

Yeah I wouldn't be opposed to that. It's enjoyable doing prop stuff once in awhile.

Is it strange that I see not only the overall theme of ME in these weapons, but also a bit of Destiny in the sniper rifle? For clarification, I mean the sniper looks remarkably similar to a weapon called the Wire Rifle, if only for the fact it's more angular than rounded like the former. Amazing designs either way, I especially love the pistol's design!

Thanks! I like the long rifle the most. And it does have a bit of similarity to a wire rifle.

I just have to ask can I use your gun Ideas in my artwork?! So far I only have asked one other person that has weapons of high enough visual appeal to me.

I really like this, you managed to keep the overaching theme without getting too repetative. i am slightly annoyed with the handgun though, the other two mags are at an angle, then the handgun just changes it. MY OCD MAN. YOU CANT BE DOING THAT TO MY OCD
you got more like this?

Nah this is all i've got. I was intending to do more but i got a loooong list of art to do.
And yeah, i tried doing the pistol with an angled clip like the rest but it wasnt really working out so i just got lazy.

i like where your head is at for the long range rifle and the assault rifle, but i think the pistol having the loading chamber so far up will cause less accuracy and possibly less stopping power. other than that i find this really impressive a long the lines of a future series of advance fire arms. well done

yeah the pistol is pretty forward heavy, but i wasnt reading too much into realism anyways.

Sniper rifle is my favorite. Very nice coloring job, I'm glad I found another concept artist who doesn't work using exclusively-digital means, since you say you start with an ink drawing. That's pretty rare in a field where your average Joe concept artist has moved on to purely-digital paintings and speedpaints.

Zerahoc In reply to Great-5 [2013-05-25 04:40:07 +0000 UTC]
well there's undeniable advantages to the digital medium. Ink doesn't exactly erase well. But I grew up on traditional art, so it'll always be a part of my work.

Same here. My favorite concept artist, style-wise, is Keith Thompson...he's one of my biggest influences, and I love his art because he doesn't do all-digital stuff, he does pencil drawings which he then colors digitally in Photoshop just the way I do. And they end up looking every bit as amazing as a high-quality digital painting, just in a different wort of way. I have his "Character Design Techniques" DVD that I got from the Gnomon Workshop ages ago, and it's taught me most of what I know nowadays when I draw. Although to be honest, I initially learned from *Zaeta-K , who I watch and who sometimes does art collabs with me. He was actually the one who told me about that DVD. Though as of late I've been experimenting with my own stuff, such as using ink instead of pencil, and using different blending layers in Photoshop than the ones that the DVD said to use. By doing that I can attempt to vary my style somewhat from soft-shaded and concept art style, to cell-shaded and comics/anime style, etc.
I will have to have a look at your gallery, to see if I like any of your other pieces. I may even watch you if I see lots of stuff I like. Stay tuned...

it's always good to try out different things. A versatile artist has better employment opportunities. I don't follow a lot of particular concept artists' styles, i just look through a large variety of them. I tend to draw more from comic artists

Good, glad to hear it. I like experimenting with completely different styles here and there...I have a basic, mostly "realistic" comics/concept art style I use for my main series, though I also sometimes draw in a more cartoony and "cuter" art style from time to time, inspired by Disney and MLP. But even within my realistic style, I like varying the shading and coloring techniques, sometimes just using pencil, sometimes using inked lineart, sometimes both, and shading in either soft shading or anime-style cell shading, which is a bit easier for me and yields some pretty interesting results to boot. By "cute" style doesn't use shading, only flat colors and gradients.

I really like those designs !
Is it original designs or did you copy it from somewhere ? (it looks a lot like some weapons from Borderlands)
I might even consider trying to build a live replica of that sniper someday, if you don't mind me doing so ^^ (actually I'm looking forward to build a replica of my favorite sniper from Borderlands 2 but I can't find any good reference for it ...)

they are original designs, though i can definitely understand the similarities to Borderlands. I never played the games, but I did buy the artbook recently, and they have many excellent gun designs in that.
And you can totally build a replica if you want to, so long as you remember to credit me
