Description
A twee dwelling species that lives in the rain forests of the world I'm trying to fabricate. They are a mix of plant and animal that lives off of fruit and insects they harvest from their trees into large snail shells that were converted into backpacks. When young their tails are bright green and curled like a newborn leaf, while maturity is displayed in the image above. When old, the green wilts, and their fur grays out.Generic:
-Colorblind, and impaired vision.
-Extremely sensitive sense of smell and hearing.
-Do not feel safe on the ground.
-Despite webbing, they can't glide.
Males:
-Only ones to grow a mane or facial hair.
-Hold long hooked thumb claws used for climbing, but can be used to fight.
-More 'appealing' in status and 'beauty' by the bowed shape of their nose. Royals and Oracles hold a mutation for the snout not present in above image.
Females:
-Sleek build, faster moving.
-Can see the color red vividly. Only color capable of seeing.
-Flatter the top of the snout is, the better in terms of physical 'beauty' in their standards. Royals and Oracles hold a longer neck seen as 'graceful'.
Still hammering out details, and in turn am getting ideas for Zercon's species. As always though species names are hard for me to come up with, so until I come up with viable names, they are 'Tree Dwellers' and 'The Lizard Species' because I suck.

Nice bold lines and strong proportions. Well-realised, for a reference sheet. Incidentally, a trick I usually use for coming up with names is to translate suitable words into a foreign language and then mess around with the results. It's more or less how most animals get their names anyway. Got about ten different dictionaries for obscure and unusual languages lying around the place for the very purpose.

I've used that idea before its awesome. Sometimes it works, sometimes I end up just slamming my face into the keyboard yelling like a moron until something rolls out. I just haven't been lucky with either thus far yet, but I'm sure I just haven't tried hard enough :3
What are some of the languages you use? Perhaps I'm just using the wrong things.

Latin and Greek are the old fallbacks, since those are used in taxonomy and produce (usually) the most 'realistic' results. I've also tried Chinese, Maori, Afrikaans, Akkadian, Anglo-Saxon and Tagalog. Even relatively common languages like French or Spanish can be useful, you just have to shop around until you find a language with the kind of atmosphere you're looking for. The last longish game I designed, I used mostly Maori words because I wanted a tribal atmosphere and the Maori language really is quite beautiful. Also it gave the players a good excuse to dance the Ka Mate Haka around the table
